SouthernWorldwide.com – Independent professional wrestling shows often conjure images of intimate venues and aspiring athletes aiming for the top tier of the sport. However, Awesome Championship Wrestling (ACW) recently defied these expectations with its ACW Reckoning event in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The MJN Center was packed for the show, which also aired on Triller. The event boasted high production values, multiple championship matches, and even a steel cage main event, demonstrating a level of quality often associated with larger promotions.

The night concluded with a highly controversial and chaotic scene.

The ACW Tag Team Championship match pitted The Now (Vik Dalishus and Hale Collins) against Sent 2 Slaughter (Shawn Donovan and Danny Maff). This match was intended to be the culmination of a bitter rivalry, marked by incidents such as Sent 2 Slaughter disrupting Dalishus’ wedding and Collins’ wrestling school ceremony. The steel cage stipulation added an extra layer of intensity.

Both Collins and Maff were on the verge of securing the titles, with the cage door open and the first to escape declared the winner. However, they reached the floor simultaneously, leading to a dispute among the referees about who touched down first. The match was ultimately ruled a draw, igniting outrage from Sent 2 Slaughter.

The disgruntled duo unleashed their frustration on ACW officials and referees. Sent 2 Slaughter’s manager then re-entered the ring with Maff, locking the cage door. Collins was subsequently attacked outside the ring.

The arrival of Vincent and Dutch, known as The Righteous, offered no relief. Instead of intervening to help Collins, they cuffed him to the cage and made off with the tag team championships. Collins was forced to witness Sent 2 Slaughter brutally assault Dalishus, delivering multiple chair shots and a spike piledriver.

Dalishus’ wife rushed to the ring, pleading with officials to open the cage and attempting to shield her husband from further harm. As Sent 2 Slaughter departed, fans reacted by throwing water bottles, clearly dismayed by the shocking conclusion to the event.

Following the show, Dalishus shared the severity of his injuries on Instagram.

“Last night’s cage match ended with me being taken from the arena on a stretcher after suffering multiple injuries,” he stated in his post, which included graphic photos of his injuries. “Right now, I’m still undergoing evaluation while we gather more information on the extent of the damage.”

He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, adding, “I want to thank everyone who has reached out with concern, support, and prayers. It truly means a great deal to me and my family during this time. Please continue to keep me in your thoughts as we move forward and learn more in the days ahead.”

The ACW Reckoning event also featured the induction of Randy Savage and Mike Bell into the MJN Center Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. Killer Kross and Shotzi have also committed to appearing at ACW’s next event, Indypendence Day, scheduled for July 18.

In other wrestling news, Sami Zayn’s recent storyline has seen him express deep dissatisfaction with the current state of professional wrestling. After losing the United States Championship to Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42 and failing to regain it in a rematch at Backlash, Zayn was told he needed to re-establish his credentials.

Zayn has been vocal about his issues, even confronting a character referred to as the Gingerbread Man at his funeral. He has questioned why fans seem indifferent to his plight, especially when he feels he has done nothing wrong.

During a segment where Johnny Gargano lay incapacitated beside him, Zayn delivered a passionate monologue.

“Things are changing around here. This place is not what it used to be. You know who feels it the most? Guys like us,” Zayn declared. “I mean, remember wrestling? Remember when wrestling was a thing? When just being great at this and giving it your all, your passion, your heart, and as long as you did it great, the fans would always be on your side and you were guaranteed to rise because the cream always rises. Remember when that mattered?”

Zayn’s emotional outpouring appeared to resonate with Gargano, whose eyes followed Zayn as he walked away. This moment has led wrestling fans to speculate about Zayn’s perceived sidelining from the championship picture and has provided food for thought regarding his perspective.

It’s been over 15 years since Zayn’s debut on WWE NXT. Throughout his decorated career, he has achieved championship success in NXT, as well as holding Intercontinental, U.S., and tag team titles. He has witnessed the retirements of prominent figures like John Cena and A.J. Styles and the injury of his close friend, Kevin Owens.

Zayn’s current situation can be seen as a reflection of the natural fluctuations and challenges inherent in any career, particularly in a dynamic industry like professional wrestling. While he remains a respected figure in WWE, there’s a palpable shift towards emerging talent, mirroring a common experience of veterans facing new generations of performers.

Fans watching Zayn’s performances on “Friday Night SmackDown” can likely relate to his feelings of being passed over or struggling against the tide of change, especially within the context of the WWE Universe.

Even Gargano, a veteran of similar standing to Zayn, has been unable to speak for weeks, highlighting the broader narrative of veteran wrestlers grappling with their place in the evolving landscape.

Zayn’s character development is increasingly becoming more relatable as he navigates the perception of time moving forward and his own place within it. Recent call-ups to the SmackDown roster, such as Ricky Saints joining Williams and Carmelo Hayes’ return, further underscore the ongoing evolution of the roster.
