SouthernWorldwide.com – Japan’s national team has relocated its World Cup training site in Monterrey due to unsatisfactory field conditions at their initial practice location.
The players encountered an uneven pitch with several patches of dirt at the facility belonging to Liga MX club UANL Tigres, where they held their first practice on Wednesday.
As a result, the Japanese delegation has moved to El Barrial, the training ground of Rayados de Monterrey, who are the biggest rivals of Tigres.
The reason for the change in venue was not explicitly stated by the delegation. Training is scheduled to take place on Thursday afternoon at the new location.
The initial training session was held at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) in Monterrey, Mexico, on June 3, 2026, in preparation for the FIFA 2026 World Cup football tournament.
This issue has gained significant traction on Mexican social media platforms, leading to widespread criticism directed at UANL Tigres.
Japan is set to commence its World Cup campaign against the Netherlands in Arlington, Texas, on June 14.
They will then face Tunisia in Monterrey on June 20, followed by a match against Sweden in Texas on June 25.
The Samurai Blue’s official training camp for the World Cup will be established in Nashville, Tennessee, where the team is expected to arrive on June 8.
