SouthernWorldwide.com – Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Switzerland early Sunday to participate in a new round of negotiations with Iran. The Trump administration is actively pursuing a lasting agreement following a recently established ceasefire.

Vance’s arrival was just before 6 a.m. local time. He is expected to join White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who is also President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, for the crucial talks.

Swiss officials confirmed on Saturday that the Iranian delegation had already arrived and was en route to Bürgenstock. This location has been designated as the site for the upcoming discussions.

The negotiations were originally planned for Friday. However, Switzerland’s foreign ministry announced a postponement of the planned talks, which were set to involve the U.S., Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan.

According to Axios, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also anticipated to take part in these important discussions.

These negotiations are taking place just days after President Trump signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran. This agreement followed the G7 summit held at the Palace of Versailles and established a 60-day ceasefire. It also laid out a framework for broader discussions between the two nations, aiming to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump issued a warning. He indicated that the United States might impose tolls in the Strait of Hormuz if the negotiations do not result in a lasting agreement before the current ceasefire expires.

Before his departure from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Vance articulated his expectations for a successful trip. He stated that a key objective would be to establish the foundational structure for future negotiations.

“I think number one, just getting things set up in the right way and getting the actual structure of the negotiations in place,” he remarked.

“The way that we’re going to do this, we’re going to have a principal level of political leadership at the top,” Vance continued. “And then obviously the technical team is going to stay on the ground.”

Vance indicated that he anticipated his stay in Switzerland would last for a day or two.

The vice president also provided a preview of some of the key issues expected to be addressed during the negotiation sessions.

I think we’re hopefully making progress on the nuclear issue, make progress on the Lebanon ceasefire issue,” he stated.

“Those are the two big things that I think we’re going to be focused on,” he elaborated. “I’m sure the Iranians are going to have issues they’d like to discuss as well.”

Vance commented on the conditions in Lebanon, suggesting that they have seen improvements despite recent clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.

“Despite the headlines, things are actually getting better there,” he observed, while acknowledging that sporadic acts of violence continue to pose a challenge in the region.

The vice president emphasized that the primary goal is to prevent any further escalation of conflict and to ensure the sustained effectiveness of the ceasefire.

“The big problem is that somebody will shoot and then somebody will respond,” Vance explained. “You’ve just got to stop the shooting for long enough to get the ceasefire to hold.”

Pakistan has also announced its participation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are slated to engage in technical-level discussions in Switzerland.
