SouthernWorldwide.com – John Cena, a titan in the world of professional wrestling, recently shared his perspective on his final WWE match and the mixed reactions it garnered from fans, stating that the outcome “defines” his career.

Cena’s last hurrah in the wrestling ring began with a surprising heel turn and the pursuit of a record-extending 17th championship. However, his in-ring career officially concluded with a loss to Gunther in December.

The decision for Cena not to end his career on a victorious note against “The Ring General” has been a subject of intense debate among wrestling enthusiasts for the past five months. While the loss marked the end of Cena’s active wrestling career, it also propelled Gunther into a formidable reputation, with some dubbing him a “career killer” after he also ended A.J. Styles’ tenure in WWE.

During a recent encounter with videographer Adam Glyn, Cena was asked about the fan response to his final match. Cena expressed that, from his viewpoint, it was the most fitting conclusion to his journey.

“I think we all just live in the moment, right? I think, this is just my perspective, and if people were upset, that’s their right, of course, you can feel how you want to feel. I had a career that was polarizing,” Cena remarked, referencing a term often used by Michael Cole.

He elaborated on the “polarizing” nature of his career, noting how it mirrored the chants of “I suck” he often faced from the audience. Cena believes the reaction to his final match was a reflection of this long-standing dynamic.

“So, I think with the last match, the audience was polarized. There were people who understood and were entertained in a positive way. There were people who were so in the moment and reacted with such passion, it was like a microcosm of my career. The audience was split. I can’t think of a better way to close the chapter than that. It defines what I did,” he explained.

Although his in-ring career has concluded, John Cena’s connection with WWE remains strong. He is widely expected to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame when the time is right.

Beyond his wrestling achievements, Cena is actively involved in nurturing future talent. He announced at Backlash that he will host the John Cena Classic, an event designed to showcase WWE talent from NXT and offer fans a glimpse into the company’s promising future.

In a similar vein, Cena hand-picked several NXT competitors to participate in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, demonstrating his commitment to elevating emerging stars.

Cena conveyed his excitement about these initiatives to Glyn, stating his deep investment in these projects. He is eager for the official announcements regarding the date and location of the events, viewing them as crucial first steps in bringing these visions to fruition.

“I am fully invested in this,” he affirmed. “So, I can’t wait to see what it is. I can’t wait until we announce the date and location. I think that’s obviously step one and we’ll go from there.”
