SouthernWorldwide.com – New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers has reportedly undergone a second surgery on his injured knee.
The procedure was aimed at removing scar tissue that had been causing stiffness in his knee. Nabers, 22, had initially undergone surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus on October 28.
According to reports from The Athletic, this second surgery was a cleanup procedure and took place weeks ago. Crucially, it is not expected to impact Nabers’ recovery timeline.
The Giants remain optimistic about Nabers’ availability for their season opener. They are hopeful he will be ready to play in the Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13.
Nabers suffered the initial knee injury, a tear of his ACL and meniscus in his right knee, on September 28. This occurred during the Giants’ victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
The game was notable as the first career start for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. However, Dart was unable to play with his top wide receiver for even a full half due to Nabers’ injury.

Prior to the injury, Nabers was on track for a highly productive sophomore season. In the four games he played, he recorded 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
His rookie season was already a standout performance. Nabers set a franchise record with 109 catches, accumulating 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. This was achieved despite what was described as inconsistent quarterback play.
The Giants organization is anticipating Nabers to continue his role as the primary No. 1 wide receiver for Dart. This expectation persists even after significant changes to the wide receiver room this offseason.
Wan’Dale Robinson, a key receiver, departed in free agency to join the Tennessee Titans. Last season, Robinson had a strong performance with 92 receptions for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns.
To bolster the receiving corps, the Giants signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III as free agents. These additions aim to compensate for Robinson’s departure.
In the NFL Draft, the Giants made a move to acquire additional talent. They traded up in the third round to select Malachi Fields. Furthermore, the team signed tight end Isaiah Likely, providing the 23-year-old quarterback Dart with another valuable receiving option.
