SouthernWorldwide.com – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated alongside Knicks champion Jose Alvarado on a float during the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York on Sunday.

This event occurred less than 24 hours after the Knicks secured their first NBA title since 1973.

Alvarado, a native New Yorker, participated in the local parade shortly after returning to the city from San Antonio.

The mayor joined Alvarado on the float, adding to the festive atmosphere.

A video from the parade captured Alvarado rapping Jadakiss’ part from the 2004 Ja Rule song “New York.”

Mamdani was also seen singing along to the song, which has become an anthem for the Knicks.

Knicks teammate Jordan Clarkson was also present on the float.

Alvarado, who has Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage, represents Puerto Rico in international basketball competitions.

He previously played for the New Orleans Pelicans before being traded to the Knicks.

His contributions were noted as impactful during the Knicks’ championship run, particularly in Game 4 where he played a significant role in a 29-point comeback.

The entire Knicks team is scheduled to participate in their championship parade on Thursday.

They clinched the title with a 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5.

This win marked the end of a 53-year championship drought for the franchise.
