The storms caused extensive damage, collapsing hundreds of homes and toppling trees across multiple counties. Power lines were also severely affected. In Tylertown, a house was completely consumed by fire after witnesses reported it was struck by lightning.

In the small community of Bogue Chitto within Lincoln County, falling trees caused significant destruction. A car was split in half, and residents at a mobile home park were trapped. Emergency crews worked to assist those affected by the debris.

Max Mahaffey, a resident, recounted his terrifying experience to WAPT-TV. He was in his bedroom when he mistook the storm’s roar for thunder. Upon moving to the living room and returning to his bedroom, he found it had disappeared.

Mahaffey stated that he was unharmed, but his grandmother suffered an ankle injury. Several of his neighbors sustained cuts and bruises from the storm’s impact. The event highlights the chaotic and sudden nature of the severe weather.

The National Weather Service issued a warning about a “very large and dangerous tornado” that traversed from eastern Lincoln County into Lawrence County. This indicates the significant threat posed by the storm system. The agency’s warnings are crucial for public safety.

Governor Tate Reeves confirmed that multiple tornadoes were reported across the central and western regions of the state. He stated that the state Emergency Management Agency was actively coordinating response efforts. His message emphasized the gravity of the situation.
