Mullin Criticizes Spanberger for ‘Criminalizing’ DHS Amidst ICE Arrests in Her State

SouthernWorldwide.com – Following a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation that led to the arrest of a three-time felon in Virginia, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has criticized Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger.

Mullin stated that the arrest highlights the negative consequences of policies enacted by Spanberger and other Virginia Democrats. These policies, he argues, limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.

This lack of cooperation, according to Mullin, makes it more challenging for ICE agents to remove individuals with criminal records from communities.

The ICE operation resulted in the apprehension of a felon who had been deported twice before and had prior felony drug charges. This incident serves as a focal point for Mullin’s critique of Virginia’s approach to immigration enforcement.

Mullin expressed his frustration with the state’s sanctuary status, contending that it contributes to an increase in criminal activity within Virginia.

“They wanted to cancel all the 287G programs,” Mullin stated, referring to Spanberger’s administration. He emphasized the importance of these programs for local law enforcement partnerships with federal agencies to apprehend criminals.

He further elaborated on the issue by citing statistics from Fairfax, Virginia. Mullin claimed that approximately 50% of murders in Fairfax are committed by individuals who are in the country illegally.

“You think about what’s happening in Virginia. When you make Virginia a sanctuary city, you encourage more illegal activities,” he asserted.

Mullin also directed criticism towards Democratic leaders, suggesting they prioritize political ambitions over adherence to the law.

“They start causing all the political theater because they’re too afraid of their own base and they’re afraid that they’re gonna get beat in a primary,” Mullin commented.

He insisted that such an approach is unsustainable. Mullin called for a collaborative effort to uphold the nation’s laws and allow law enforcement to perform their duties effectively.

“Either we are going to work together to make sure that we have a nation of laws that we’re gonna enforce, that by the way Congress passed, and allow law enforcement to do their job,” he stated.

Despite the challenges posed by a lack of local and state support, Mullin commended federal agencies like ICE for their ongoing efforts.

“They’re doing exactly what President Trump said he wants to. Get America’s streets safe again,” Mullin added.

He contrasted the current situation with the previous administration, suggesting that under prior leadership, criminals were allowed to operate with less impedance. Mullin affirmed that the current administration, particularly under President Trump’s direction, is focused on protecting neighborhoods.

Mullin concluded by acknowledging the dedication of law enforcement officers who continue their work, even in the early morning hours, to ensure public safety.
