SouthernWorldwide.com – Ralph Alvarado, a Kentucky state senator, has advanced to the general election, positioning himself as a potential successor to Rep. Andy Barr. This development follows a strong endorsement from President Donald Trump, who described Alvarado as a “true friend.”
Alvarado has actively campaigned as a pro-Trump, America First candidate. His advancement is significant in a state where some Republican representatives have been vocal critics of the current administration.
The endorsement from Trump came amid reported frustrations with other Kentucky Republican figures, including Rep. Thomas Massie, Sen. Rand Paul, and Sen. Mitch McConnell. Trump specifically highlighted Alvarado’s alignment with his political agenda in his endorsement message.
“A true friend to MAGA, RALPH HAS BEEN WITH US FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!” Trump declared on social media Monday. He also pointed to Alvarado’s efforts in mobilizing Hispanic voters during the 2016 election as part of the National Hispanic Advisory Council for Trump.
“Dr. Ralph Alvarado has my complete and total endorsement to be the next representative from Kentucky’s 6th congressional District,” Trump further stated. This backing could be crucial for Alvarado’s general election prospects.
Alvarado brings a significant background in healthcare, having practiced as a physician for nearly three decades. His online biography details his transition into politics in 2014 when he successfully ran for the Kentucky General Assembly, becoming its first Hispanic member.
In his campaign messaging, Alvarado has consistently emphasized his unwavering support for President Trump. He has publicly stated his commitment to standing with Trump, referencing his support in the 2016, 2020, and anticipated 2024 elections.
“In Kentucky, a triple crown is rare,” Alvarado remarked in a campaign video. “But so is a triple-Trump. 2016, 2020 and 2024 — I stood with President Trump every single time. And in Congress, I’ll stand with him again.”
While Alvarado still faces the challenge of winning the general election, his district has shown a strong Republican leaning in previous elections. The incumbent, Rep. Andy Barr, secured a decisive victory in 2024, winning 63% of the vote against Democratic challenger Randy Cravens.
Rep. Barr, who has represented Kentucky’s 6th congressional district since 2013, is now seeking a U.S. Senate seat. He is running to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
