SouthernWorldwide.com – Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner avoided reporters’ questions on Tuesday as he arrived for a meeting at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. This occurred amidst an alleged sexting scandal and criticism regarding his resurfaced online posts.
He subsequently ignored further inquiries about his suitability to represent Maine in the U.S. Senate and about past controversies.
Platner, who is currently leading in the polls, was scheduled to meet with Democratic senators in Washington, D.C. Concerns have been raised across the political spectrum regarding allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity.
His wife, Amy Gertner, reportedly discovered text messages between Platner and multiple women only a few months after their 2024 wedding.
Platner’s campaign confirmed the existence of sexually explicit messages to Politico. This confirmation followed a report by The Wall Street Journal stating that Gertner found the texts shortly after their marriage and alerted a campaign aide to potential political risks for Platner’s Senate campaign.
“We did the work, and I’m grateful for her every hour of every day,” Platner stated, adding, “What I’ve learned throughout this campaign is that people don’t care about gossip or headlines, they care that you’re fighting for their hospitals, their paycheck, their kids.”
In a video shared on X on Saturday, Gertner also defended her husband against accusations related to infidelity.
“So it makes me really angry — disappointed, and I find it really shameful that there’s a group of media outlets and people who are willing to spread gossip instead of talking about real issues that Graham is running on, like healthcare and education and childcare,” she commented.
Additional controversies have emerged concerning Platner’s Senate bid, including deleted online posts and a tattoo linked to Nazism.
The Marine Corps veteran, who completed four combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, faced criticism for a Reddit post from June 2019. In the post, he stated that Purple Heart recipient Teddy Daniels, who was wounded four times in a 2012 encounter with Taliban forces, “didn’t deserve to live.”
