SouthernWorldwide.com – Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner escalated his public dispute with Senator John Fetterman by using a profane insult against the Pennsylvania Democrat during a town hall event in southern Maine on Sunday. This incident occurred just two days before Maine’s crucial Senate primary election.

Platner, responding to a supporter’s question about his aspirations for working with colleagues in Washington D.C. if elected in November, expressed his desire to be an effective senator.

“The Senate is truly a place of, it’s a lot about relationships, and I I don’t want to go down there and simply be nonfunctional,” Platner stated. He elaborated on his concerns about the current state of government functionality.

“I mean, as you can all probably tell, we have a lot of criticisms about the way this government functions. But in order for us to make it functional, we’re going to have to do things. And you can’t just go down there and be John Fetterman and just and just kind of just sort of be an a–hole.”

Platner further justified his strong language by noting that Fetterman had also made critical remarks about him.

“He’s said mean things about me, I’m allowed to say that,” Platner asserted.

The exchange comes amid a heated back-and-forth between the two Democrats in recent days. Senator Fetterman has been critical of Platner’s past statements and online activities, challenging him to release messages from a Kik account that has become a focal point in the campaign.

Fetterman had previously called out Platner, suggesting he was a “creeper” and a “Nazi sympathizer.” This criticism was reportedly in response to Platner’s history of controversial remarks, including a Nazi tattoo, deleted Reddit posts that were critical of the military, and allegations of sending inappropriate messages to women while married.

A report by The New York Times detailed accusations from an accuser who described Platner’s behavior as “toxic” and alleged he was physically abusive towards her. Platner has faced a growing list of controversies that are seen as potentially jeopardizing his bid for the Senate in Maine.

Fetterman has challenged Platner to release all text messages and communications from his account on the platform, referencing Platner’s username, “P-Hustle.”

“Let me make a deal. I’ll tell P-Hustle, I’ll wear a suit every day, if he releases all those texts and messages that he’s had… [with] the dozen women,” Fetterman stated, referring to the numerous women Platner allegedly communicated with.

Platner, in turn, took to the social media platform X over the weekend, posting that “John Fetterman seems to genuinely think that the reason no one likes him is because he refuses to wear a suit.”

“It’s not the hoodie, dude. It’s because you’ve become a stooge for AIPAC and the Republican Party,” Platner added in his post.

During his town hall on Sunday, Platner did not address the specific criticisms leveled against him by Fetterman or the broader controversies he has faced. Instead, he focused his message on wealth inequality and the perceived influence of powerful interests in Congress.

Platner described his political moment as entering a “new phase in the American political story,” comparing it to the eras of the 1880s, 1930s, or 1960s, rather than the last 40 years.

“We have entered an age of a politics of power, and we need to start acting like it,” Platner told the attendees.

Platner is widely considered the likely Democratic nominee for the Senate. He is competing in a Tuesday night primary election against Democratic Governor Janet Mills and former senior government official David Costello.

Should Platner emerge victorious in the primary, he is expected to face off against incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins in the general election in November.
