SouthernWorldwide.com – Senate candidate Graham Platner has maintained an active account on a private messaging application known for facilitating casual encounters and anonymous interactions, even as he confronts intensifying scrutiny regarding alleged infidelity and the platform’s links to sexual exploitation.
Platner, who is the presumptive Democratic nominee for Maine’s 2026 Senate race, has an existing profile on Kik. This application is an anonymous chatting platform recognized for its lenient identification protocols, which have regrettably contributed to the widespread dissemination of child sexual abuse material.
The presence of Platner on Kik was initially brought to light by The Wall Street Journal. The publication reported that Platner sent sexually explicit messages to several women while he was married. His wife, Amy Gertner, whom Platner married in 2023, reportedly discovered these messages in the spring of 2025 and subsequently disclosed them to a campaign official who has since departed.

Various child safety organizations have voiced strong criticism of Kik. They point to its anonymous nature and public group chats, which enable effortless contact between strangers.
Creating an account on Kik requires only an email address, and the platform lacks any effective age verification mechanisms.
Industry reports indicate that an estimated 70% of Kik’s user base falls within the age range of 13 to 24 years old.
In 2023, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation labeled Kik as a “predator’s paradise.” This designation was due to the platform’s prevalence of predatory behavior and child sexual exploitation.

The watchdog group also included Kik on its “Dirty Dozen” list for its role in facilitating and profiting from sexual exploitation.
According to Bark, a parental control and online safety platform, Kik was identified as the worst app for severe sexual content in 2024.
Between 2023 and 2025, at least four men from Maine were sentenced for offenses related to child pornography distribution or soliciting nude images from underage girls on Kik, by posing as minors.

While it remains unclear who Platner communicated with on the discreet platform, there is no evidence to suggest he interacted with minors.
The Platner campaign stated over the weekend that he had removed the application from his phone well before The Wall Street Journal’s report was published.
Gertner released a video strongly criticizing the media’s coverage of Platner’s alleged infidelity. She characterized the reports as “gossip” and asserted that her marriage to the candidate is “great.”
“It makes me really angry, disappointed,” Gertner stated in the video released on Saturday evening. “And I find it really shameful that there’s a group of media outlets and people who are willing to spread gossip instead of talking about real issues that Graham is running on.”
Gertner plays a visible and compensated role in Platner’s campaign, serving as a volunteer coordinator.
Platner’s alleged infidelity is the most recent in a series of controversies that have impacted his campaign.
The candidate, described as far-left, has previously drawn backlash for posting offensive messages on a now-deleted Reddit account. These posts included jokes about public masturbation in portable toilets, discussions about using satellite phones during overseas deployments for “cyber f–k[ing]” his girlfriend, and apparent defenses of military personnel who engaged in extramarital affairs.
“You don’t have much experience with Latin American hookers, do you?” Platner wrote in response to a user expressing concern about the exploitation of female prostitutes in Colombia.
“I’ve heard that idiotic sentiment made within the confines of the the [sic] military. ‘If you can’t remain faithful to your wife, how can you remain faithful to your comrades?’” he wrote in a separate post, reacting to an article about Secret Service agents paying prostitutes. “Well, I have many good buddies who lied and cheated with women, and yet were straight shooting hard men when it came to their work.”
“I find it is a sentiment only held by moral relativists who need something to cry about, intelligent people realize they are not mutually exclusive,” he continued.
In other now-deleted posts, Platner also identified himself as a communist, characterized rural White people as “racist” and “stupid,” and singled out Black individuals for not being generous tippers.
He has also faced increased scrutiny over a tattoo on his chest linked to Nazism, which he has since covered. Platner stated last year that he acquired the black skull-and-crossbones tattoo in 2007 while drinking with fellow Marines during a leave period in Croatia, and denied awareness of the symbol’s Nazi origins.
Notably, Platner’s hand placement on his Kik account profile strategically obscures the heavily scrutinized tattoo from view.
