SouthernWorldwide.com – Sources indicate that Mauricio Pochettino, the current manager of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, has been presented with a contract extension proposal that would keep him in the role through the 2030 World Cup.

This offer was confirmed by sources close to reporter Doug McIntyre. The decision regarding Pochettino’s future with the team will be made only after the conclusion of the ongoing 2026 World Cup tournament.

Pochettino was appointed to lead the U.S. Soccer program in September 2024. His managerial career includes significant tenures at prominent European clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.

During his time with Tottenham, Pochettino guided the club to the Champions League final in 2019. They ultimately fell to fellow English Premier League side Liverpool in that championship match.

The Argentine-born manager has overseen a successful campaign for the USA at the current 48-team World Cup. The team has secured first place in Group D, marking only the third occasion in the tournament’s history that the U.S. has topped its group.

Speculation has previously linked Pochettino with a potential return to European club management once his commitment with the U.S. concludes. In May, reports suggested he was a candidate for the AC Milan managerial position.

However, AC Milan has since appointed Rúben Amorim, formerly of Manchester United, as their new manager. This development potentially alters the landscape of available coaching roles in Europe.

When approached for comment regarding the contract extension offer, a spokesperson for U.S. Soccer neither confirmed nor denied the report. The initial reporting on this extension offer came from The Athletic.
