SouthernWorldwide.com – A heated exchange took place during a House committee meeting on Wednesday, with Representative Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, verbally confronting Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
The incident occurred during a hearing focused on the department’s funding. Green was captured on video accusing Mullin of being a “racist.”
Following his initial accusation, Green then instructed Mullin to “shut up.”
The Homeland Security Secretary appeared visibly surprised by Green’s outburst, cocking his head as the verbal attack continued with Green repeating the phrase “shut up.”
“Did you just tell me to shut up,” Mullin questioned.
As the sound of the gavel indicated the proceedings were continuing, Green retorted, “It’s my time.”
Mullin calmly addressed the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Representative Andrew Garbarino, a Republican from New York. Mullin stated, “I’m not going to let anybody call me a racist chairman.”
Green then denied making the comment and again requested that Garbarino “tell him to shut up.”
The chairman ultimately called for the encounter to be suspended due to Green’s escalating behavior during the House gathering.
This is not the first time Representative Green has been involved in aggressive outbursts. He has a documented history of such incidents.
Notably, Green was ejected from President Donald Trump’s primetime address to a joint session of Congress for the second consecutive year in February. This highlights a pattern of disruptive behavior.
More recently, Green faced a significant electoral setback. He was defeated in the Democratic primary runoff for Texas’ 18th Congressional District.
His opponent in that runoff was freshman Representative Christian Menefee, who secured the victory.
