Sanders Criticizes GOP Morality Amid Support for Democrat with Controversial Tattoo

SouthernWorldwide.com – Senator Bernie Sanders recently engaged in a heated exchange with Republican staffers outside the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) headquarters. The staffers, clad in towels, confronted Sanders and other prominent Democrats regarding their endorsement of Graham Platner, a candidate for the Maine Senate embroiled in several controversies.

One protester directly questioned Sanders about his support for Platner, specifically asking if he was aware of Platner’s presence on Kik, an anonymous messaging app. This occurred as Platner and other Democratic leaders were seen entering and exiting the DSCC building for a meeting ahead of the June 9 primary election.

Platner’s campaign has been significantly impacted by a series of damaging revelations. These include a tattoo identified as a Nazi symbol, which he has since covered. Additionally, resurfaced posts from Reddit attributed to him blamed rape victims, promoted racial stereotypes, mocked a Purple Heart recipient, and advocated for political violence, among other offensive statements made on the blogging platform.

Adding to the mounting issues, reports emerged just days before the primary detailing Platner’s exchange of sexually explicit text messages with multiple women while he was married. He also maintained an active Kik profile that featured a shirtless selfie taken in a mirror, with a towel around his waist. The Republican staffers’ towel attire outside the DSCC appeared to be a direct mockery of this particular detail. Kik has faced criticism from child safety organizations, who describe it as a “predator’s paradise” due to its association with child exploitation cases.

In response to the question about Platner’s Kik account, Sanders retorted by asking if the protesters were affiliated with the Republican party.

The protester persisted, stating, “It doesn’t matter.” This prompted Sanders to launch into a tirade about Republican “morality” amidst the escalating dispute.

“Are you talking about morality and corruption? With President Trump?” Sanders vociferously questioned the protesters, pointing at them. He concluded the encounter by saying, “Have a nice day,” before departing.

Platner has contested some of the reporting concerning his personal life. His wife, meanwhile, has expressed her disapproval of the public disclosure of private marital details. Platner has also issued an apology for his past online comments. Regarding the tattoo, he stated it was acquired years ago without his knowledge of its Nazi associations and has since been covered.

The public confrontation outside the DSCC highlighted the increasingly visible strategy employed by Republicans to leverage Platner’s controversies into a political burden for national Democrats. This includes prominent figures like Sanders and other party leaders who have continued to stand by Platner as Maine’s Democratic Senate primary on June 9 approaches.
