The White House was briefly put on lockdown Monday afternoon after a man shot at Secret Service officers four blocks away, near the Washington Monument. Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the officers were not injured, said a Secret Service spokesperson.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. Eastern time on Monday. The White House was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown was lifted about 30 minutes later.
