SouthernWorldwide.com – Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner reportedly exchanged sexually explicit text messages with multiple women after his marriage two years ago, according to a recent report.

Platner’s campaign has confirmed these text exchanges to Politico. This confirmation follows a report from The Wall Street Journal, which stated that Platner’s wife, Amy Gertner, informed a campaign aide about the messages after he announced his candidacy for the Senate. The aide was reportedly investigating potential political vulnerabilities.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Gertner discovered these messages several months after she and Platner were married in 2024. She shared this personal information before Platner was scheduled to hold a campaign rally supported by Senator Bernie Sanders.

However, the campaign stated that the aide at the time deemed the texts to be a private matter between the couple. Gertner, in a statement to The Journal, expressed her deep hurt over the situation. She confided in someone she considered a friend, sharing deeply personal details about her marriage.

Gertner stated that she had to witness this individual spreading malicious gossip. She felt betrayed and that her privacy had been invaded, especially since these revelations occurred before any campaign was being considered.

She further elaborated that she and her husband have been working hard on their marriage. They sought counseling and maintained an honest dialogue, even when it was difficult. Gertner emphasized that their marriage has emerged stronger because of their love for each other and the life they have built together.

Gertner affirmed her knowledge of Graham’s true character. She knows the man she married and the husband he has been to her through all of life’s challenges. She asserted that this fundamental aspect of him has not changed and will not change.

Platner, an oyster farmer and a veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, has encountered several controversies leading up to this report. These include a tattoo that bore a resemblance to a Nazi symbol, which has since been removed.

Additionally, he has faced scrutiny for past controversial comments made on Reddit. These comments reportedly minimized sexual assault and contained crude remarks about masturbation. A deleted post also surfaced where Platner allegedly claimed a wounded soldier “didn’t deserve to live.”

Despite these controversies, a recent poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire indicated that Platner holds a significant lead. He is ahead of Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins by a margin of 51% to 42% among likely voters in Maine.

Platner is considered the presumptive Democratic nominee. This follows Maine Governor Janet Mills’ decision to withdraw from the Senate race in April.

Representative Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California, reiterated his support for Platner on Saturday. He expressed pride in Platner’s character and his stance against war, genocide, and an unfair economy.

Khanna also stated his pride in Platner’s vision for a new deal appropriate for the current times. He announced his excitement to campaign alongside Platner on June 5th.

Senator Collins has publicly criticized Platner, asserting that he is too extreme for Maine. She has specifically highlighted resurfaced Reddit posts where Platner appeared to mock a wounded U.S. soldier.
