SouthernWorldwide.com – A nonprofit organization supported by George Soros has accused New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill of disseminating “MAGA propaganda” and failing to adequately address the needs of migrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Delaney Hall facility in Newark, New Jersey.

The protest, which took place outside Governor Sherrill’s office on Monday afternoon, highlights the significant backlash the Democratic governor is experiencing from the more progressive wing of her own party.

The organizing group, Cooper River Indivisible, directs donations to the Indivisible Project, a politically influential 501(c)(4) nonprofit known for its active support of Democratic candidates.

This organization collaborates closely with Indivisible Civics, its affiliated 501(c)(3) sister organization.

The Indivisible network receives funding from the Open Society Action Fund, a 501(c)(4) entity backed by prominent Democratic donor George Soros.

“WE ARE HEADING TO MIKIE SHERRILL’S OFFICE — to demand that she answer for the mess that she has made,” stated the event’s sign-up page on the Mobilize.us platform.

The announcement further detailed the group’s grievances, asserting that “Governor Sherrill’s response has caused serious harm inside and outside of Delaney Hall. Peaceful protestors and journalists have been arrested, injured, and had their constitutional rights violated, all while GeoGroup Guards and ICE continue to retaliate against strikers.”

The group is calling for Governor Sherrill to engage directly with the detained migrants at Delaney Hall and to facilitate the release of detainees who are young, elderly, or ill.

“GeoGroup Guards” refers to the security personnel employed by Geo Group Inc., the government contractor managing the Delaney Hall facility under its national contract with ICE.

Cooper River Indivisible has also leveled accusations against Governor Sherrill, claiming she has “incited violence by siccing the police on peaceful protestors.” They further allege that she is promoting “MAGA” propaganda, particularly in the wake of over a week of protests at the ICE facility.

In 2023, the Open Society Foundations, through its Open Society Action Fund, provided a two-year grant of $3 million to the Indivisible organization. This funding was designated “to support the grantee’s social welfare activities,” according to the Open Society Foundations’ website.

The Indivisible organization has also been a key player in organizing the “No Kings” protests.

According to the Open Society Foundations’ website, George Soros has donated over $32 billion of his personal wealth to these foundations. His son, Alex Soros, currently serves as the chairman of the board.

Protests at the Delaney Hall facility have intensified significantly over the past week. Contrary to the allegations made by the protesters, local law enforcement has not been involved in arresting agitators or suppressing what are often described as violent riots. However, the New Jersey State Police did make arrests on Friday night.

State troopers, some mounted on horseback, employed robust riot control measures on Friday night. These tactics included the deployment of noise bombs, tear gas grenades, pepper spray, and riot shields in an effort to disperse the crowd.

Earlier that afternoon, the police had established barriers to demarcate a specific zone. These barriers were subsequently commandeered by rioters who used them to confront the police.

“My top priority is keeping New Jerseyans and our communities safe – and an increased ICE surge in the area outside of Delaney Hall is a threat to public safety,” Governor Sherrill stated on X Saturday morning. “We know that lives would be at risk were that to happen. And I will not accept that risk.”
