SouthernWorldwide.com – The Georgia Senate is intensifying its inquiry into alleged campaign finance violations connected to Stacey Abrams’ voter outreach organization, with a prominent legislator asserting that “no one is above the law” as subpoenas have been issued to Abrams and other key individuals.

The Senate Special Committee on Investigations announced on Monday that Abrams, along with New Georgia Project leaders Lauren Groh-Wargo and Nsé Ufot, are required to appear before legislators at the State Capitol on Friday at 10 a.m.

“This committee has a responsibility to follow the facts wherever they lead,” stated Republican state Sen. Greg Dolezal, the committee’s vice chairman. “Georgia law requires transparency and accountability in our elections.”

These subpoenas originate from findings by the Georgia State Ethics Commission, which determined that the New Georgia Project and its associated Action Fund contravened campaign finance laws during the 2018 election cycle.

The groups acknowledged 16 violations earlier this year and agreed to a $300,000 fine, marking the largest campaign finance penalty in Georgia’s history.

The New Georgia Project ceased operations and dissolved in 2025, following accumulating financial and legal challenges.

Republican lawmakers have clarified in their press release that the objective of this investigation is to identify those involved in the decision-making processes that led to the violations. They also aim to ascertain specifics regarding the management of funds and who was aware of these activities.

“The people of Georgia deserve to know who was involved, what decisions were made, and how millions of dollars flowed through organizations that admitted to violating our campaign finance laws,” Dolezal remarked.

Georgia’s Republican Lt. Gov. Burt Jones emphasized in the release, “No one is above the law in Georgia.”

He further added, “When organizations secretly spend millions to influence elections while evading disclosure requirements, it undermines confidence in our democratic process. The Senate will continue pursuing the truth and ensuring accountability, regardless of political party or influence.”

Legislators indicated that additional hearings and witness testimonies are anticipated in the upcoming weeks.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Abrams for comment.

Abrams, who twice ran as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in the pivotal state of Georgia, previously stated earlier this year that she would not seek the governorship again. She indicated instead that her focus would be on her efforts to combat what she has warned is the nation’s drift toward authoritarianism under President Trump.

Abrams, a former leader of the Democratic Party in the Georgia state legislature and a nationally recognized voting-rights advocate, narrowly lost to Republican Gov. Brian Kemp in the 2018 gubernatorial election. She subsequently lost her 2022 rematch against Kemp by nearly eight percentage points.
