SouthernWorldwide.com – Thekla successfully defended her AEW Women’s World Championship at the Double or Nothing event on Sunday in a challenging four-way match.
The champion faced off against formidable opponents Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander, and Hikaru Shida. From the outset, the other competitors seemed to target Thekla, aiming to isolate her and prevent her from gaining an advantage.
Initially, Statlander and Shida appeared to form a temporary alliance, focusing their efforts on Hayter. However, this partnership was short-lived as Shida struck Statlander with a kendo stick to break up a pinfall attempt.
The tension escalated between Statlander and Shida, leading to a confrontation where Shida slapped her tag team partner. This infighting created an opening for Thekla to re-enter the fray.
Despite being momentarily sidelined, Thekla remained strategic, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. An opportunity presented itself when Hayter and Shida collided outside the ring while attempting a double clothesline on each other.
With Statlander alone and disoriented in the ring, Thekla seized her chance. She delivered a decisive stomp to Statlander, securing the pinfall and retaining her AEW Women’s World Championship.
The Austrian-born wrestler originally won the title from Statlander on “Dynamite” in February. Since then, she has successfully defended her championship on six occasions.
