SouthernWorldwide.com – Tiger Woods has broken his nearly two-month public silence by issuing a heartfelt Memorial Day message, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
The golf legend took to the social media platform X early Monday afternoon to share his message. In addition to his patriotic tribute, Woods also dedicated a special mention to his late father, Earl Woods, who was a distinguished member of the U.S. Army Special Forces and served two tours in Vietnam.
“My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service,” Woods stated in his message on X. “To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.”
His father, Earl Woods, passed away in May 2006 at the age of 74.

Prior to this Memorial Day statement, Tiger Woods had not made a public comment since March 31. At that time, he announced he would be “stepping away for a period of time” to seek treatment following a significant car accident and a subsequent DUI arrest in Florida on March 27.
The 15-time major champion faced two misdemeanor charges: driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful test. While Woods recorded a 0.00 blood alcohol content on both breathalyzer samples, his refusal to undergo a urine test led to the refusal charge.
On April 1, Woods received court permission to travel internationally for “comprehensive inpatient treatment.”
The 50-year-old athlete was reportedly spotted back in Florida earlier this month. However, his private jet is said to have returned to Switzerland on Sunday, indicating that he is likely to resume his rehabilitation process there.
Woods was seen disembarking his plane at Palm Beach International Airport on May 13. While his return to the United States might have suggested the end of his overseas treatment, his subsequent return to Switzerland suggests that the rehabilitation process is still ongoing.
The reason for Woods’ brief return trip to Florida this month remains unclear. However, the timing coincides with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who is the former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, recently revealing her diagnosis with breast cancer.
Vanessa Trump shared an emotional message on social media, referring to Woods as her “strength” after announcing her cancer diagnosis. Woods’ relationship with Vanessa was publicly announced in March 2025.
Tiger Woods has not participated in a competitive golf round since the 2024 Open Championship held in Scotland.
