The USS Fort Lauderdale is slated to function as a “floating command center.” It is equipped with a flight deck capable of supporting heavy-lift helicopters and a well deck for deploying landing craft, as detailed by SOUTHCOM.
Meanwhile, the agile USS Billings will provide crucial support in close proximity to the shorelines, aiming to expedite disaster response missions.
SOUTHCOM also announced the deployment of rotary-wing aircraft. These helicopters will offer vital airlift support for life-saving operations, facilitating the transport of U.S. government response personnel, search and rescue teams, and partner organizations during the relief efforts.
