Steve Hilton, a prominent Republican in the gubernatorial race, conveyed his confidence amidst a challenging electoral landscape for the state’s GOP. California employs a distinct “jungle primary” system, which could potentially result in no Republican candidates advancing to the general election.
Hilton is one of the two leading Republican contenders, alongside Chad Bianco, the Sheriff of Riverside County. Initially, Hilton and Bianco were neck-and-neck in the polls.
However, after receiving the coveted endorsement from President Trump, Hilton’s standing improved, positioning him ahead of Bianco. As the election drew closer, concerns emerged that the top two spots might be secured by Democratic candidates, effectively shutting out any Republican from the final ballot.
“I’m very excited that it looks like we’re going to have a good night tonight,” Hilton stated, reflecting a palpable sense of anticipation.
Hilton’s optimism for a favorable outcome was not contingent on Bianco’s decision to remain in the race, suggesting a broader Republican momentum.

“I’m pretty confident that we are going to do fine one way or the other,” he added, underscoring his belief in a positive result irrespective of specific race outcomes.
This optimistic mood was not confined to the gubernatorial contest. In Los Angeles, independent mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt was actively engaging with voters on Election Day. He targeted neighborhoods where Republicans and independents are increasingly seen as open to change, suggesting a potential for a broader political realignment.
Pratt was observed at the well-known Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, interacting with constituents at the soul food establishment. Additional footage showed him hosting a community cookout in a park situated within a predominantly minority area, signaling his efforts to connect with diverse voter bases.
With Governor Gavin Newsom being term-limited and Mayor Karen Bass facing criticism for her administration’s handling of critical issues such as crime, homelessness, and the recent Palisades fires, both Republicans and candidates like Pratt perceive a significant opportunity for substantial change in California’s political landscape.
The last Republican to hold a significant elected position in Sacramento was former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Notably, Schwarzenegger, like Hilton, is an immigrant and a member of the Grand Old Party, drawing parallels between their political journeys and aspirations.
