SouthernWorldwide.com – President Donald Trump celebrated his 80th birthday on Sunday evening with a significant event held on the South Lawn of the White House. The occasion featured a UFC Freedom 250 spectacle, where fourteen international fighters engaged in intense bouts within a cage.
Trump made his appearance from the Oval Office around 8:30 p.m. ET, accompanied by UFC CEO and President Dana White. Their entrance was reminiscent of a fighter’s walkout, setting a dynamic tone for the evening.
An estimated 4,300 guests were present, including approximately 1,200 active-duty service members. The crowd erupted in cheers as the President emerged, with some attendees shouting “Happy Birthday.”
The event commenced with a performance of the national anthem by the Marine Band, with Zac Brown as the vocalist. The spectacle concluded with a thrilling flyover by the Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds.
“It was beyond anything that anybody’s ever seen in sports,” President Trump briefly commented to reporters as he departed the White House. This remark was made ahead of his scheduled attendance at the G7 summit in France on Monday.
As anticipated, the audience frequently engaged in “U-S-A!” chants throughout the evening. These patriotic shouts were particularly prominent during the main card bout featuring American fighter Justin Gaethje, who secured a victory against the previously undefeated Ilia Topuria.
Many of the participating fighters expressed their gratitude to President Trump for his “courage” in hosting such an event. The majority of the victorious athletes made their way to the ringside to shake his hand or share a brief word following their respective matches.
The patriotic ambiance of the evening was designed to set the stage for the upcoming America 250 celebrations planned for Washington, D.C., later in the summer.
The event, reportedly costing $60 million, is the latest prominent display in the ongoing relationship between President Trump and Dana White.
White has maintained a long-standing connection with the President, which dates back to the first UFC event he oversaw. This inaugural event took place in 2001 at Trump’s Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
White has actively supported Trump’s political campaigns on two separate occasions. In turn, President Trump has attended four UFC fights during his tenure as president.
The fights on Sunday concluded shortly after 1 a.m. and featured two championship contests. In one bout, France’s Ciryl Gane claimed the interim UFC heavyweight title by defeating Brazil’s Alex Pereira.
In the other championship fight, lightweight champion Ilia Topuria lost to interim champion Justin Gaethje in four rounds.
