Trump’s Energy Chief on Iran Tensions and Gas Prices

SouthernWorldwide.com – Energy Secretary Chris Wright has advised Americans not to worry about potential sharp increases in gasoline prices, even as tensions with Iran escalate again.

Speaking from the Great American State Fair on the National Mall this week, Wright stated, “That’s not changing.” He was responding to concerns that escalating geopolitical events could impact fuel costs.

US CLAWS BACK KEY CONCESSION TO IRAN AFTER FRESH ATTACKS ON COMMERCIAL SHIPS IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ

Following Iran’s attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and Tuesday, Wright reiterated his message to the public. He urged citizens not to attribute the continued flow of oil shipments through the strait to Iran, but rather to the efforts of the U.S. military.

“Look, the U.S. Military has been the key asset here,” Wright emphasized. “They have assured the flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz throughout. Not at the beginning of this conflict, but through the last six weeks.”

Wright mentioned that the administration is closely monitoring global oil supplies. This comes as a tentative ceasefire with Iran appears to have dissolved. President Donald Trump informed Secretary-General Mark Rutte that the call for peace with Iran is “over” during the NATO Summit in Turkey on Wednesday.

However, Wright pointed to the uninterrupted shipping through the Strait as a sign that markets should remain stable.

“We’re of course constantly watching the supply of oil, the supply of refined products and what’s going on there,” Wright said. “And I think still all positive trends.”

Beyond these geopolitical considerations, Wright also expressed his approval of Freedom Fuel, a new chain of discounted gas stations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This chain promises to offer prices below the national average to its customers.

The Trump administration, while not directly involved with the network, has shown strong support for the new chain and its 25 locations.

“We love it,” Wright commented when asked about Freedom Fuel. “I mean, look, any mechanism we can to lower energy costs for Americans of all kinds, we’re all in on.”

“With Freedom Fuels, they’re just lowering it down to their wholesale price of gasoline,” Wright explained. “So they’re not making any money selling gasoline, but they’ve got convenience stores. That’s how most gas stations make money.”

The cost of gasoline is a significant concern for many Americans. Amidst rising prices, there has been a notable increase in consumers opting for electric vehicles to achieve long-term savings at the pump. Tesla has emerged as a dominant player in this market segment.

Wright highlighted that a key advantage of living in the United States is the freedom to choose the type of vehicle one drives.

“That’s why you live in America. You get the choice of all those.”
