SouthernWorldwide.com – EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has urged caution against labeling individuals who question climate projections as “science deniers,” emphasizing that these projections represent a spectrum of possibilities rather than definitive certainties.
Zeldin’s remarks were made at the Great American State Fair, where he was prompted to discuss climate predictions from the Biden administration that he believes have been contradicted by new evidence.
Instead of directly referencing a specific prediction made during the previous administration, Zeldin articulated that climate projections, particularly those extending decades into the future, should be viewed as evolving estimates. He stressed the importance of continuous updates as new data becomes available.
“Relying on present-day facts rather than flawed assumptions from the past is critically important,” Zeldin stated.
He further elaborated, “Every day that passes, we gain a clearer understanding of future realities, allowing us to compare them with existing predictions.”
Zeldin highlighted the value of considering diverse perspectives on climate change. He suggested that integrating both long-term forecasts and current real-world data can lead to a more accurate assessment of the present implications and impacts of climate change.
He argued that individuals who hold differing views on climate projections, potentially based on outdated research or data, should not be automatically categorized as “science deniers.”
“I don’t believe it’s appropriate to label someone a science denier simply because they disagree with a prediction about the exact temperature in the year 2100,” Zeldin commented.
“Listen to them,” he advised. “They might have insights based on other studies they’ve encountered, as there is indeed a range of predictions, especially when looking far into the future.”
The Trump administration has been actively reviewing several climate-related regulations. This includes efforts to re-examine the EPA’s 2009 Endangerment Finding, which forms the legal foundation for numerous federal greenhouse gas regulations, as well as other rules pertaining to greenhouse gas emissions.
Since assuming leadership of the EPA, Zeldin has been instrumental in re-evaluating the agency’s 2009 Endangerment Finding and is currently revisiting a number of climate-focused regulations that were implemented under previous Democratic administrations.
