SouthernWorldwide.com – Washington Mystics head coach Sydney Johnson was escorted off the court by police officers following a heated exchange with WNBA officials during a game on Saturday night against the Atlanta Dream.

The incident unfolded with 3 minutes and 52 seconds left in the third quarter. A foul was called on Mystics guard Alicia Florez Getino against Dream star Angel Reese. Johnson expressed strong displeasure with the call, confronting the officials at the scorers’ table.

Despite attempts by second-year player Kiki Iriafen and other assistant coaches to restrain Johnson, he continued to engage with the officials. He was subsequently assessed two technical fouls and ejected from the game. Police officers then entered the court and guided him to the locker room.

“I lost my cool,” Johnson stated to reporters post-game. “There’s nothing more to it than that. That’s it. The officials did what they deemed appropriate, and that’s all I can say.”

The Atlanta Dream secured a dominant 109-77 victory. Angel Reese was a standout performer for the Dream, contributing 18 points, 17 rebounds, and four steals. Notably, seven of her 17 rebounds were offensive boards. Rhyne Howard also had a strong showing for the Dream, scoring 19 points and recording six steals.

For the Washington Mystics, Kiki Iriafen was their leading scorer with 24 points, along with three rebounds and three assists. Sonia Citron added 18 points. Iriafen and Citron were the only two players for Washington to reach double figures in scoring.

With this win, the Atlanta Dream improved their season record to 7-3. The Washington Mystics’ record fell to 4-5.
