Zohran’s Party”: Mamdani Becomes Key Democratic Figure as Socialists Dominate NYC Primaries

SouthernWorldwide.com – New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has solidified his position as a significant political force after the three Democratic Socialist candidates he endorsed secured victories in their respective primary elections.

Tuesday night witnessed considerable upsets in New York City’s primary races. Mamdani-backed candidates Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier emerged victorious, defeating incumbent Representatives Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) and Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) respectively.

Furthermore, in the open 7th Congressional District, Democratic Socialist Claire Valdez triumphed, even with the endorsement of outgoing incumbent Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) going to another candidate.

These successes for Mamdani’s chosen candidates have ignited discussions about the future trajectory of the Democratic Party and the potential decline of influence held by its traditional establishment.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) has suggested that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) may have struck a deal with Zohran Mamdani. Lawler alleges that this agreement was made to prevent New York City Council member Chi Ossé from challenging Jeffries in the primary, as Jeffries reportedly feared losing if Ossé entered the race.

“Tonight’s results in New York City prove one thing, @RepJeffries cut a deal with @ZohranKMamdani to save himself and threw everyone else under the bus,” Lawler posted on X, asserting that Ossé would have contested Jeffries’ primary.

“The Democrat party has officially become the party of Zohran, AOC, & Bernie,” Lawler added, referencing other prominent progressive figures.

The conservative social media account “Bad Hombre” on X has claimed that the Democratic Party is now largely under the influence of Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). This assertion is based on the victories of far-left progressive candidates not only in New York but also in primary races in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

“If you’re John Fetterman, switching to the GOP never looked better,” Bad Hombre commented. “If you’re Chuck Schumer, you’re drafting your retirement speech and learning how to grill a burger. AOC is coming for that Senate seat.”

Jeremy Carl, a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute, views these election outcomes as indicative of broader ideological and demographic shifts occurring within New York City. He expressed concern that the city is evolving into a “post-American city” and anticipates similar transformations nationwide.

“The radicalism of these soon-to-be Congressmen is going to be a headache for Democrat leadership in the House and a gift to the GOP,” Carl stated.

“The future of the Democrat party is radical and post-American in its orientation. Since all of these candidates are in the world’s media capital, they are going to get tons of attention,” Carl continued. “That isn’t going to play well for the Dems in 2026 and 2028.”

Jason Rantz commented that the victories for Mamdani on Tuesday could benefit Republicans. He believes these wins will empower the GOP to portray Democratic Socialists as the new direction of the Democratic Party.

“Republicans are very obviously going to take advantage of this, and it’s going to hurt the Democrats nationwide,” Rantz said on CNN. “You could win in New York, you could win in Seattle, you can win in Portland, in Los Angeles. But that’s where you’re going to win.

And if we’re able to define the Democrats who have tried to run away from this label of being socialist, being open borders, being, you know, pro-crime or anti-Israel, if that’s the goal of the Democratic Party to run from that. Yeah, you’re not going to be able to do that anymore,” Rantz concluded.
