SouthernWorldwide.com – LeBron James’ basketball future is once again a prominent topic as the NBA offseason approaches.

James is set to become a free agent this summer, a situation that could allow him to switch teams for the first time since 2018. However, speculation continues regarding his decision to either continue his illustrious career elsewhere or bring his time with his current team to a close.

Amidst the ongoing discussions about James’ future, ESPN has reported that representatives for James and the Lakers are actively engaged in negotiations concerning the structure of a new contract.

If James decides to return for what would be his record 24th season, his current focus appears to be on finalizing a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team he has been a part of for the past eight seasons.

“I believe LeBron James’ intention is to play, and I think the current focus is on reaching an agreement with the Lakers,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst stated on ESPN Cleveland radio on Tuesday. “He is currently permitted to negotiate with the Lakers, and I am confident they are in discussions. They are exchanging proposals.”

“Within the next 14 days, I anticipate he will make an effort to secure a deal with the Lakers,” he added.

James already holds the distinction of being the longest-tenured player in the league.

LeBron and Savannah James have been a couple since their high school days. They have three children together, including Bronny James, who has spent the last two NBA seasons playing alongside his father.

In October 2025, James was featured on the “Everybody’s Crazy” podcast. He appeared alongside popular social media personality, YouTuber, and online streamer Kai Cenat, as well as two other guests. Savannah co-hosts the show.

During that episode, James shared his thoughts on his upbringing, his dedication to work, and his business strategies.

Last month, the Lakers were eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.

James was instrumental in leading the Los Angeles team to a first-round victory over the Houston Rockets, often doing so without the full contribution of teammates Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic. While Reaves did return for the conference semifinals, Doncic was unable to recover from a hamstring injury sustained late in the regular season in time to rejoin the starting lineup for any of the postseason games.
