SouthernWorldwide.com – A shooting incident at a party near Arcadia Lake, just outside Oklahoma City, has resulted in at least 18 individuals being hospitalized, according to statements from police and hospital officials.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, with authorities receiving reports of gunfire around 9 p.m. The gathering, attended by many young people, was taking place near the lake when the shots were fired. Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward confirmed that as of Monday, authorities were actively searching for suspects and that at least three of the injured were in critical condition. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Police stated on Monday that it remained unclear how many of the injured sustained gunshot wounds, offering limited details about the unfolding events. Ward emphasized the seriousness of the situation, acknowledging public concern and assuring that investigators were working diligently to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

A spokesperson for the Integris Health hospital system reported that ten patients were being treated at their Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, while another three were admitted to Integris Health Edmond Hospital. This hospital system indicated that the ages of the victims they treated ranged from 16 to 30 years old.

Among those treated, three were reported to be in critical condition, and four others were listed as being in serious condition. The nature of the injuries sustained by the remaining patients has not been specified.

One witness, Jeremiah Smith, estimated that approximately 250 people were present at the party. He recounted to The Associated Press that the altercation began with an argument between a group of girls, reportedly over boyfriends, which quickly escalated into widespread chaos.

“Everybody got scared, dudes was panicking, women was panicking, people seeing their friends fight,” Smith described the scene.

Edmond police officials indicated on Monday that the party had been advertised widely on social media platforms, attracting a large attendance primarily composed of young adults from various parts of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. A flyer that circulated on social media following the shooting suggested an event titled “Sunday Funday” was scheduled to take place at a pavilion near the lake, concluding at midnight.

Authorities noted that the shooting occurred in a densely wooded area, which presented challenges for the investigation during the overnight hours, as reported by CBS Oklahoma City affiliate KWTV.
