SouthernWorldwide.com – U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz strongly criticized Iran at a UN Security Council meeting this week. He stated that Tehran “will not silence” the council, pushing back against claims from Iran’s representative that council members were spreading falsehoods about recent attacks on neighboring Gulf states.

Waltz directly addressed Iranian diplomat Amir Saeid Iravani, emphasizing the solemnity of the location. “Let me remind you where you are,” Waltz stated. “This is the United States of America. This is the United Nations Security Council. You will not silence this body.”

These sharp remarks were made during an emergency session of the Security Council. The meeting was convened in response to drone and missile attacks that targeted Bahrain and Kuwait on Sunday. These attacks followed new U.S. airstrikes against Iran.

During his address, Iravani argued against the council meeting. He accused the U.S., Bahrain, and other members of spreading lies and misinformation. “Once again, the representative of the United States has resorted to lies and disinformation against Iran in a desperate attempt to justify the US’s unlawful acts of aggression,” Iravani declared.

He further rejected what he called “unfounded accusations” made by some Western members of the Council and the representative of Bahrain. Iravani contended that instead of addressing the root causes of the current crisis, these parties have ignored the unlawful aggression against Iran. He accused them of attempting to shift blame onto the victim. “Their double standards and hypocritical behavior have deprived them of any credibility to lecture others,” Iravani stressed.

Following the meeting, Waltz reiterated his stance in a post on X. “Iran will not silence us on our own soil,” he wrote. “That might work in Tehran, but not in the UN Security Council. We will tell the truth.”

During the heated exchange, Waltz presented what he identified as images depicting the aftermath of Iranian attacks. These images reportedly included a family whose home in Bahrain was destroyed by a Shahed drone. He also showed a hotel filled with tourists that was hit, and a building used by first responders, which Waltz claimed was deliberately targeted.

“Are they lying?” Waltz questioned, referring to the victims of the attack. “Is this hypocrisy? Is this what this council is here to denounce today? I ask the representative, are these lies? … I’d say not.”

Bahrain’s minister of foreign affairs, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, provided stark statistics. He stated that since February 28, Bahrain has faced a total of 808 attacks. These comprised 203 ballistic missiles and 605 armed drones. He asserted that these attacks deliberately targeted civilian facilities, critical infrastructure, and residential areas.

Al Zayani detailed the tragic human cost, reporting the deaths of three innocent civilians and injuries to 465 others. This directly disputed Tehran’s claim that its aggression is solely directed at military objectives. The situation highlights a dangerous escalation between the two nations.

The United States and Iran have repeatedly accused each other of violating a fragile ceasefire agreement. On June 27, President Donald Trump announced that U.S. forces had struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations, as well as coastal radar sites. This action was taken after Iran allegedly violated the deal.

The current cycle of retaliatory strikes reportedly began when an Iranian drone struck a merchant vessel off Oman the previous week. The U.S. military then retaliated, according to officials. The ongoing conflict underscores the volatile geopolitical landscape in the region.

President Trump expressed his frustration in a Truth Social post. “It is very possible that they will never learn!” he wrote. “There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started.” He concluded with a dire warning: “If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!” This statement reflects the heightened tensions and the potential for further escalation.
