Astronauts Reported Mysterious Objects and Lights in 1972 UFO Files

SouthernWorldwide.com – New files released by the Pentagon have revealed that the NASA Apollo 17 crew observed multiple unidentified objects in space during their 1972 mission.

These documents, made public on a new Defense Department website dedicated to declassified files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), include details of these sightings.

One notable piece of evidence is a NASA photograph taken in December 1972 during the Apollo 17 mission. The image displays “three ‘dots’ in a triangular formation in the lower right quadrant of the lunar sky that is clearly visible upon magnification of the image,” according to a caption from the Defense Department.

The Pentagon stated that there is “no consensus about the nature of the anomaly” but indicated that a preliminary analysis suggests it could be a “physical object.”

The astronauts on this mission, the last to walk on the moon, also reported witnessing bright, tumbling sparks and jagged fragments that bore a resemblance to fireworks.

Mission pilot Ronald Evans described seeing “a few very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver,” as per a transcript released by the Pentagon.

Pilot Harrison Schmitt reported observing “a whole bunch of big ones on my window down there — just bright. It looks like the Fourth of July out of Ron’s window.”

Meanwhile, mission commander Eugene Cernan mentioned experiencing difficulty sleeping due to observing flashing lights, which he likened to an “imposing” train headlight.

The Pentagon’s report details Cernan’s observations over three hours of “several flashing, rotating phenomenon that he assessed as corresponding to physical objects in space rather than a purely optical phenomenon.”

The released documents also contain a transcript from the 1969 Apollo 11 crew debriefing, where astronaut Buzz Aldrin recounted several unusual observations.

Aldrin described seeing something “pretty close to the moon” that had a “sizeable dimension to it,” prompting them to use a monocular for observation.

Similar to Cernan’s experience on Apollo 17, Aldrin also reported seeing flashing lights while attempting to sleep.

“I was trying to go to sleep with all the lights out. I observed what I thought were little flashes inside the cabin, spaced a couple of minutes apart,” Aldrin stated.

Additionally, Aldrin mentioned seeing “a fairly bright light source which we tentatively ascribed to a possible laser.”

The Pentagon has indicated that more documents and videos related to UAP will be released on a continuing basis.
