Pentagon Starts Releasing UFO Files: “The American People Deserve to See

SouthernWorldwide.com – The Pentagon has commenced the release of a substantial collection of documents pertaining to Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), also commonly known as UFOs. This significant move follows a directive from President Trump, aiming to enhance transparency regarding government information on unexplained phenomena.

The newly unveiled repository, accessible through a dedicated Pentagon website, comprises 162 files sourced from various agencies including the FBI, Department of Defense, NASA, and the State Department. These documents contain a wealth of information, including eyewitness accounts, photographs, and detailed reports of sightings of unexplained objects, with documented incidents spanning decades and originating from across the globe.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that these files, previously kept under classification, have long been a subject of public speculation. He emphasized that it is now time for the American people to have direct access to this information.

President Trump echoed the sentiment of transparency, describing the disclosure as an effort to provide “Complete and Maximum Transparency.” He expressed that while past administrations may have fallen short in their openness on this subject, these newly released documents and videos would allow the public to form their own conclusions.

The initial release includes a diverse array of materials: 120 PDF documents, 28 videos, and 14 image files. Additional photographs are embedded within the PDF documents, predominantly featuring still images captured from footage of unusual objects observed by military aircraft.

Among the released materials are six photographs depicting phenomena observed by NASA astronauts during the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 missions. These images were taken from the lunar surface.

One particular photograph from the Apollo 17 mission, taken in December 1972, is described as showing “three ‘dots’ in a triangular formation” in the lunar sky. Although this photo had been previously released and discussed, the Pentagon indicated that a new review of the original film was underway to ascertain the nature of the anomaly. Preliminary analysis suggests the feature might be a physical object within the scene.

Another document references Apollo 17 astronaut Jack Schmitt’s report of witnessing a “flash on the lunar surface north of Grimaldi (crater).”

The collection also features approximately two dozen videos, totaling 41 minutes in duration. These videos document reported encounters with UAPs globally between 2020 and 2026.

A majority of these videos capture footage from infrared cameras tracking white objects that appear as small specks moving through the air. A report accompanying a video taken in Greece in 2023 noted the object was making multiple “90-degree turns” at an estimated speed of 80 miles per hour.

One video depicts an object described as football-shaped in the Indo-Pacific region. Another video, recorded in Syria, shows two semi-transparent, irregularly shaped orange areas that appeared briefly.

Further contributing to the visual evidence is an FBI photograph accompanied by a sketch based on an eyewitness’s description. This composite sketch portrays an “apparent ellipsoid bronze metallic object materializing out of a bright light in the sky, 130-195 feet in length, and disappearing instantaneously.”

The released documents also contain significant historical information. The FBI’s case file, covering reports of unidentified objects and “flying discs” from 1947 to 1968, is included. This extensive file, comprising 18 separate documents, features accounts of high-profile incidents, photographic evidence from locations like Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and technical proposals concerning potential propulsion systems.

While the Pentagon noted that portions of this FBI case file, designated 62-HQ-83894, had been previously released, the current version contains fewer redactions and includes newly declassified pages.

The majority of the modern documents consist of incident reports from military personnel detailing their encounters with unusual objects or unexplained phenomena in various operational areas, including Iraq, Syria, the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Aden, and Greece. One pilot described observing a “triangular and metallic UAP” traversing at an altitude of 25,000 feet over the Mediterranean Sea.

Historical encounters are also documented, including the well-known 1947 crash near Roswell, New Mexico. A section within the FBI case file contains a memo from an agent in the bureau’s Dallas field office to FBI headquarters. This memo relays information received from an Air Force major regarding the recovery of an object believed to be a “flying disc” near Roswell.

The memo describes the object as hexagonal in shape and suspended from a balloon approximately twenty feet in diameter by cables.

Additionally, the files include letters addressed to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover detailing “flying disc” sightings, as well as correspondence between various FBI offices concerning these reports. Following a sighting in Idaho, a regional office inquired with headquarters about guidance on explaining such phenomena, citing concerns that a lack of official explanation could lead to public “hysteria, or panic.”

A more recent document details the experiences of several federal law enforcement agents in an undisclosed location in the western United States in 2023. Prepared by the Pentagon, this file reports that teams of agents observed various orbs and unusual figures in the sky or hovering just above the ground.

One incident described an orb that agents likened to the “Eye of Sauron from Lord of the Rings, except without the pupil, or maybe an orange Storm Electrify bowling ball.”

Another incident involved agents witnessing “orange ‘orbs’ in the sky” that emitted “smaller red ‘orbs’ in groups of two to four.” The report noted that these events were observed by multiple teams from different vantage points over a two-day period, leaving uncertainty as to whether a single “mother” orb released the smaller ones or if multiple orange orbs were involved.

Files from the State Department include diplomatic cables from various countries such as Papua New Guinea, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and Mexico to Washington, detailing UAP incidents that occurred between 1985 and late 2025.

A cable from the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan in 1994 recounts the experience of a commercial airline pilot and crew who reported observing a peculiar object at an altitude of 41,000 feet. They described seeing “a bright light of enormous intensity, approaching them from over the horizon to the east at a great rate of speed and at a much higher altitude than their own.” The crew observed the object performing maneuvers including circles, corkscrews, and 90-degree turns at high speeds and under extreme G-forces.

When suggesting the object might have been a meteor, the crew adamantly stated they had seen thousands of meteors and space debris over their years of flying for PanAm and insisted this was entirely different. The pilot reportedly expressed the opinion, shared by his crew, that the object was extraterrestrial and under intelligent control. The embassy diplomat concluded by stating they had no opinion and were reporting the information for its potential value.

The Pentagon clarified that the materials released on Friday pertain to “unresolved cases,” meaning the government has been unable to reach a definitive conclusion regarding the nature of the observed phenomena. The department has encouraged analysis from the private sector.

Out of the 162 files released, 108 contain redactions. The Pentagon explained that information was withheld to protect the identities of eyewitnesses, the locations of government facilities, or sensitive details about military sites not directly related to UAP observations. Importantly, no redactions were made to information concerning the nature or existence of any reported UAP encounter or related phenomena, as per President Trump’s directive.

The Pentagon’s UAP website has indicated that new documents will be published on a continuous basis as they are identified and declassified, with new batches expected every few weeks.

In February, President Trump directed the Pentagon and other agency heads to identify and release files related to UFOs and any evidence of “alien and extraterrestrial life.” He called for the release of “any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters.”

The military has been tracking reports of what it terms unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) for decades. However, a 2024 report from the Department of Defense stated that there is no evidence confirming the existence of extraterrestrial life from any government investigation into UAPs. President Trump has stated his uncertainty regarding the existence of aliens.

The Pentagon began releasing images several years ago after establishing a website for its All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which is responsible for analyzing reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena. The AARO website was launched in 2023.
