Surprise Charges for Cruise Passengers Taking Food to Cabins

This new policy, which reportedly applies to a limited number of specific sailings, aims to encourage more responsible guest behavior and maintain hygiene standards onboard.

A spokesperson for Costa Cruises confirmed the communication, stating that it was a “preventive and deterrent measure, in line with our existing policies.” The company emphasized its commitment to providing a “high-quality, safe and enjoyable experience for all guests on board.”

According to reports from the cruise blog Crew Center, the cruise line informed guests that only room service staff, who are trained in sanitation and hygiene, are permitted to transport and deliver food to cabins. The policy explicitly states that “All food must be consumed exclusively in designated dining areas.”

This announcement has sparked varied reactions among cruise passengers, particularly on social media platforms. Some travelers expressed support for the cruise line’s decision, citing issues with plates and cups being left in hallways. Others, however, voiced their disagreement, viewing the charge as an unnecessary additional expense.
