Reports circulated on Friday suggesting Rodgers was expected to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers, sparking hope among fans that his decision about playing for the team he was with last year was imminent.
However, during an appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter stated that neither the Steelers nor Rodgers’ agent had any knowledge of a scheduled meeting.
Adding to the confusion, some reports indicated Rodgers was indeed in Pittsburgh, though not for a formal team visit. A report from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review suggested his presence in the Steel City was for a golf outing, as reported by 93.7 The Fan.
Regardless of his location, the question of whether Rodgers will play for the Steelers remains a significant talking point. The franchise, however, has taken steps to secure their position should he decide to play elsewhere.
Last month, the Steelers utilized an unrestricted free-agent tender on Rodgers. This move grants the team the right to match any offer Rodgers might receive from another NFL club.
Despite some skepticism about his potential return, Schefter expressed his belief that Rodgers will be part of the Steelers’ depth chart when training camp begins. The team’s organized team activities (OTAs) are scheduled to commence the following Monday.
With Rodgers at the helm last season, the Steelers achieved a 10-7 record and secured a playoff berth. Their postseason journey concluded with a loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round, extending the team’s playoff winless streak to eight consecutive seasons, including three straight campaigns.
Rodgers, widely considered a future Pro Football Hall of Famer, had a productive 2025 season for Pittsburgh, throwing for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 16 games.
The Steelers have also made significant changes to their roster for the upcoming season. Mike McCarthy, Rodgers’ former head coach with the Green Bay Packers, has taken over as head coach, replacing Mike Tomlin, whose 19-season tenure in Pittsburgh concluded after the 2025 season.
While Rodgers and D.K. Metcalf developed chemistry last season, the Steelers have bolstered their receiving corps by acquiring veteran Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts and drafting Germie Bernard from Alabama in the 2026 NFL Draft.
