SouthernWorldwide.com – Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis expressed his enthusiasm for Aaron Rodgers returning for another season with the team.

The Steelers officially secured Rodgers on a one-year contract, potentially worth up to $25 million, last week. Bettis shared that there’s a palpable sense of excitement surrounding this development.

Rodgers himself indicated to reporters that the upcoming season will mark the final chapter of his distinguished NFL career. Bettis highlighted that the Steelers organization is eager to send him off on a high note, while also aiming for a successful season.

“You want to send him off well, but you also want to have a great season and look forward to the future. So, there’s a lot of excitement around Aaron coming back for his last year,” Bettis stated.

Last season was Rodgers’ inaugural year with the Steelers. He participated in 16 games, with one missed due to injury. The four-time NFL MVP demonstrated that he still possesses considerable skill, completing 65.7% of his passes for 3,322 yards, with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Prior to re-signing Rodgers, the Steelers had already drafted Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. They also have Will Howard and Mason Rudolph on their roster as backup quarterbacks.

Jerome Bettis is widely regarded as one of the premier running backs in Steelers history. Known by his nickname “The Bus,” Bettis has earned a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Over his 13-season NFL career, with his final 10 seasons spent with the Steelers, Bettis accumulated 13,662 rushing yards and 91 touchdowns. He also contributed with 200 receptions for 1,449 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Bettis was a pivotal player in the Steelers’ Super Bowl XL victory over the Seattle Seahawks, notably scoring three touchdowns during their playoff run.

American Century Championship Participation

Bettis is set to compete in the American Century Tournament, scheduled to take place from July 10-12 at the Edgewood Golf Course in Lake Tahoe.

This prestigious tournament has successfully raised over $8 million for various regional and national charitable causes. American Century Investments commits 40% of its profits to the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and actively engages in fundraising during the tournament to encourage direct contributions to Stowers annually.

Bettis has been a consistent participant in the tournament since his retirement from professional football in 2006. He remarked on the remarkable growth the event has experienced over the years.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer admitted that he is still working to refine his game for the upcoming tournament. Bettis mentioned he is experimenting with a new swing and is curious about its performance.

Bettis shared that his favorite aspect of the tournament is the opportunity to interact with fellow athletes and enjoy camaraderie with them.

“I think the favorite part is really getting to chop it up with the athletes because obviously being retired, you don’t get the chance to do that anymore. And so, when you do get a chance to kind of rib guys and have fun with guys like that locker room experience again, it’s really fun and exhilarating,” Bettis commented.

The American Century Championship will be broadcast live on NBC and Peacock.
