SouthernWorldwide.com – Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent figure from New York, has drawn significant criticism from conservative voices in the South following her recent speech in Montgomery, Alabama. During the event, she urged progressives from northern states to “pull up to the South.”

The congresswoman spoke at the “All Roads Lead to The South” rally on May 16th. She contended that the United States did not fully embody a true democracy until the passage of the Voting Rights Act in the 1960s. Ocasio-Cortez also directed sharp criticism towards the Supreme Court, alleging that under Chief Justice John Roberts, the court has perpetuated a “long history of regression and repression in America.”

Following these remarks, Ocasio-Cortez issued a provocative call to action. She implored individuals from “the North” to travel to Republican-leaning states such as Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi to actively combat what she characterized as political injustice.

She further amplified this message on social media after the rally, posting, “If you’re not from these states, it’s time to pull up.”

Her statements were met with swift backlash from conservatives online. Many observers pointed out what they perceived as a contradiction: the congresswoman encouraging people to “pull up” while she herself was speaking from behind bulletproof glass, suggesting a need for heavy security.

Conservative podcaster Todd Spears gained considerable traction with a TikTok video reacting to Ocasio-Cortez’s speech. The video, which garnered over a million views, humorously questioned the purpose of progressives “pulling up” to the South.

“[Pull up] and do what? Help us get the boat off the trailer, like cut the grass, track a deer in the woods?” Spears asked in his video. “Roll up and do what exactly? Because you’re standing behind, like, pope glass in your own hometown. You come down here starting that s—, you better bring a tank. That’s not a good idea. You stay where you’re at.”

Spears also commented on the divisive nature of Ocasio-Cortez’s rhetoric. He captioned his video, stating that “AOC talking about the North ‘rolling up’ on the South and Alabama, like this is still the 1860s, is wild.”

He added his perspective on political engagement, suggesting, “Maybe politicians should spend less time trying to divide Americans and more time fixing the mess we already have.”

Another TikTok creator, Kei Bennett, whose video also achieved significant reach with over 800,000 views, advised Ocasio-Cortez’s supporters against heeding her call to action.

“I want to issue a stern warning so you do not take her advice and pull up on Alabama,” Bennett stated. He humorously listed potential local hazards, ranging from wild hogs and bayou alligators to residents who “will not hesitate to unite and get you the f— up out of here.”

Bennett, who boasts over half a million followers on the platform, cautioned that “down here in the South we don’t call cops, we call coroners.” He concluded with a direct message to Ocasio-Cortez’s supporters, “Stay your a– up there, leave us alone. We ain’t bothering nobody.”
