Astronauts Witnessed Unidentified Objects and Lights in 1972 UFO Files

SouthernWorldwide.com – New documents released by the Pentagon have revealed that the crew of NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972 reported observing multiple unidentified objects and lights in space.

These revelations are part of over 100 declassified files concerning Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) that the Defense Department made public on a new website.

Among the released materials is a NASA photograph taken during the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972. The image clearly shows three distinct dots arranged in a triangular formation within the lower right section of the lunar sky.

The Defense Department noted that there is no definitive consensus on the nature of these observed anomalies. However, a preliminary analysis suggests the possibility of a “physical object.”

In addition to the mysterious dots, the astronauts on the final mission to the moon also described witnessing bright, tumbling sparks and jagged fragments. These observations were likened to the visual spectacle of fireworks.

Apollo 17 pilot Ronald Evans is quoted in the released Pentagon transcript stating, “Now we’ve got a few very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver.”

Pilot Harrison Schmitt further elaborated on the visual phenomena, reporting, “There’s a whole bunch of big ones on my window down there — just bright. It looks like the Fourth of July out of Ron’s window.”

Mission commander Eugene Cernan also shared his experiences, noting that he found it difficult to sleep after observing flashing lights. He compared these lights to the intense beam of an “imposing” train headlight.

The Pentagon’s assessment of Cernan’s observations indicates that he described “several flashing, rotating phenomenon that he assessed as corresponding to physical objects in space rather than a purely optical phenomenon” over a three-hour period.

The newly released documents also include a transcript from the Apollo 11 crew debriefing in 1969. In this transcript, astronaut Buzz Aldrin recounted several unusual sightings during his mission.

Aldrin described an object of “sizeable dimension” that they observed when they were a day out from Earth or relatively close to the moon. He mentioned using a monocular to get a better look at it.

Similar to Cernan’s experience on Apollo 17, Aldrin also reported seeing flashing lights while attempting to rest. He stated, “I was trying to go to sleep with all the lights out. I observed what I thought were little flashes inside the cabin, spaced a couple of minutes apart.”

Furthermore, Aldrin noted seeing “a fairly bright light source which we tentatively ascribed to a possible laser.”
