SouthernWorldwide.com – Tom Homan, the White House’s border czar, passionately defended President Donald Trump’s immigration policies on Friday, recounting harrowing experiences from his extensive career in border enforcement to underscore his argument that secure borders are a matter of life and death.
Homan addressed critics who have labeled the Trump administration’s approach as inhumane. He asserted that these criticisms are misdirected, arguing that stricter border enforcement actually saves lives by discouraging migrants from undertaking perilous journeys orchestrated by cartels.
Speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., Homan expressed his frustration with what he perceives as inaccurate media portrayals of Trump’s policies.
“I want to talk about why I’m pissed off this morning,” Homan stated, directly challenging the narrative that the administration’s policies are cruel. He countered that the opposite is true: lax enforcement creates the conditions for exploitation and death.
“There’s nothing further from the truth,” Homan insisted. He explained that critics misunderstand the situation, claiming that weak borders empower smugglers and cartels to prey on vulnerable migrants.
Homan then shared a particularly grim incident he witnessed during his time in border enforcement. He described standing in the back of a tractor-trailer where 19 deceased individuals were discovered.
“I’ve stood in the back of a tractor-trailer with 19 dead people at my feet,” Homan told the audience. He noted that among the victims was a young boy, and they were found in their undergarments, attempting to find relief from extreme heat.
“They all baked to death,” Homan said somberly. He detailed the horrific conditions at the crime scene, emphasizing the lack of air in the steel truck, where temperatures reached 170 degrees Fahrenheit. “Think of the way these people died.”
Beyond this tragedy, Homan also recounted speaking with young girls who had been victims of rape by cartel members during their journey. He described the profound impact of these encounters.
“I’ve gotten on my knees to talk to little girls as young as 9 that were raped multiple times by members of a cartel,” Homan revealed. He highlighted the stark contrast between the current situation and the past.
“That’s what happens when you have an unsecured border,” he stated. “Well, guess what? There’s no little 9-year-old girl right now that everybody’s getting on their knees and talking to. President Trump has closed the border down.”
Homan repeatedly lauded President Trump, asserting that the administration has achieved the “most secure border in the history of this nation.” He maintained that the immigration crackdown is a necessary measure to prevent further deaths, trafficking, and exploitation by criminal organizations.
“Secure borders save lives,” Homan concluded his remarks. “Secure borders protect our national security. No one’s done it better than President Trump. And we ain’t finished yet.”
These statements come at a time when the Trump administration faces significant criticism from Democrats and immigrant-rights advocates regarding its aggressive deportation efforts, intensified immigration enforcement, and attempts to reverse policies enacted during the Biden administration. Homan, however, framed these actions as a moral imperative, arguing that the administration is enhancing national safety and reducing the incentives for migrants to fall into the hands of criminal cartels.
