Crew evacuates to safe haven during space station leak repair

SouthernWorldwide.com – In a precautionary measure, NASA has instructed five of the seven astronauts currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS) to relocate to the docked SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, named “Freedom.” This designated area is being referred to as a “safe haven” while two cosmonauts undertake repairs on cracks found in a transfer tunnel within the Russian module.

These specific cracks have been identified as the cause of a minor and intermittent air leak that has been present for approximately the past six years. The leak is categorized as a significant safety concern, and multiple repair attempts have been made over the years.

The current repair operation on Friday was initiated after the Russian space agency observed a gradual decrease in pressure within the transfer tunnel last month. This observation followed the arrival of a Russian cargo vessel.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
