SouthernWorldwide.com – In a surprising turn of events on AEW “Dynamite,” Darby Allin made a commanding return to confront Kevin Knight, while Mark Briscoe edged closer to a potential AEW World Championship opportunity.
Kevin Knight had recently aligned himself with the Don Callis Family, seemingly aiming to leverage this alliance for a shot at the AEW World Championship.
During his appearance on AEW “Dynamite,” Knight wasted no time in targeting Darby Allin and “Speedball” Mike Bailey. He voiced the fans’ frustration over Allin’s failure to retain the AEW title against Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) at Double or Nothing, and also pointed fingers at Bailey for disrupting the Jet Speed tag team.
Knight then called out MJF, but it was Darby Allin who answered the challenge, immediately attacking Knight with a skateboard.
“I hope New York was worth it. I hope New York was worth it, b—h,” Allin declared, his words echoing in the arena.
Members of the Don Callis Family emerged to force Allin out, but the message had already been delivered. The confrontation shifted the narrative, with Allin, not Knight, sending a clear message to “The Jet.”
Allin had been absent since his loss of the title to MJF in a brutal hair vs. title match. Following that defeat, Kevin Knight was the one who confronted Allin, delivering a UFO Splash to a gurney-bound Allin.
Meanwhile, Andrade El Idolo continues to await a promised title shot against MJF from Don Callis. Later in the show, Andrade confronted Callis, who assured him that the opportunity would come in the future.
For several weeks, Mark Briscoe had been challenging MJF for the AEW World Championship, only to be repeatedly dismissed by the champion. MJF had consistently argued that Briscoe lacked the star power and championship pedigree.
However, Briscoe secured a significant victory in his singles match against Pac. He had been on an impressive winning streak since March 11, when he and the Young Bucks lost a six-man tag team match.
Briscoe had a clear strategy in mind. He revealed that he had spoken with AEW CEO Tony Khan regarding a world championship opportunity, leading to the announcement of a match at Forbidden Door.
Briscoe and five other competitors will face MJF and five others in a high-stakes steel cage match. If Briscoe’s team emerges victorious, he will earn a guaranteed AEW World Championship shot.
In response, MJF sought assistance from the Don Callis Family, with Knight agreeing to help if granted a chance at the AEW title.
In the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament, Will Ospreay advanced to the final after defeating Samoa Joe and Mark Davis. He awaited the winner of the match between Swerve Strickland and Brody King.
Ospreay benefited from an extra week of rest as he watched Strickland and King engage in a grueling contest. King survived two “House Calls,” while Strickland endured a severe Death Valley driver before ultimately winning the match with a Vertebreaker. Prince Nana’s interference, using a weapon against King, also played a role in the outcome.
Strickland and Ospreay are now set to face each other in the tournament final at Forbidden Door on June 28.
Maya World was unexpectedly inserted into the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament at the last minute due to Saree being medically cleared. Saree was scheduled to compete against Skye Blue.
World entered the match carrying the heavy burden of her younger brother’s recent death, dedicating her performance to his memory and aiming for a surprise victory.
She had previously delivered a strong performance against Hazuki on May 30 and secured two significant wins in Ring of Honor: a singles match against Trish Adora and a tag team victory with Hyan. She also participated in the Survival of the Fittest for the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship, which Athena retained.
Despite Skye Blue having considerable momentum, World fought back resiliently. She managed to block a running knee and execute a suplex. World then landed her own running knee strike, but it only resulted in a two-count. Both competitors demonstrated immense effort, striving to advance in the tournament for a potential AEW Women’s World Championship shot.
In a remarkable turnaround, World countered Blue’s offensive maneuvers into a pinning combination, securing the three-count. She will now proceed to the semifinals to face Athena.
