SouthernWorldwide.com – Draymond Green has recently addressed public remarks made about NBA legend Charles Barkley, aiming to clear the air amidst a perceived feud.

Earlier this week, Green garnered attention for his criticism of the later stages of Charles Barkley’s distinguished Hall of Fame career. This commentary was made while Green was a guest on the studio set of “Inside the NBA.”

Green specifically referenced Barkley’s four-year tenure with the Houston Rockets. He suggested that the primary goal during that period was to avoid resembling Barkley in a Rockets uniform, a statement that followed Barkley’s own assertion that the Golden State Warriors, Green’s team, were past their championship prime.

Days later, as the controversy surrounding his comments grew, Green offered a clarification. He explained that his remark about Barkley’s time with the Rockets was a direct response to how Barkley himself often jokes about that particular part of his career.

During an episode of his show, “The Draymond Green Show,” Green elaborated on his intentions. He stated that his comment was not meant as a personal slight or to suggest he was a superior player to Barkley. He emphasized that disrespect was not his objective.

Green further added that if his words were interpreted as public disrespect, he was willing to issue a public apology. He reiterated that his intent was not to be disrespectful.

The exchange began when Barkley posited that Green might need to leave the Warriors, the only franchise he has ever played for, to secure a fifth championship. This was due to the aging core of the Golden State team.

Barkley had stated on May 6th that the Warriors’ championship window was closed. He conveyed this sentiment without intending disrespect, noting that for any aging team, their period of dominance eventually passes.

Barkley responded to Green’s comments a few days later during an interview on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s “Bickley and Marotta” radio show. He acknowledged Green as a good player but differentiated their standing, stating they were not on the same level.

Barkley indicated that while he could hear Green’s remarks, he did not feel compelled to respond to every comment made about him. He continued to downplay Green’s statements in subsequent media interviews, asserting that he was not offended.

Speaking on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Barkley explained his lack of offense. He mentioned that he had made critical remarks about other players himself and had also been on the receiving end of personal shots. He found the situation amusing.

Barkley recalled a previous conversation where he admitted to regretting his years with the Rockets, particularly the final two seasons where he felt his performance declined. However, he also pointed out that he was still under contract and receiving compensation.

Charles Barkley joined the Houston Rockets during the 1996-97 NBA season after being traded from the Phoenix Suns. He retired from professional basketball at the age of 36.

Draymond Green reached the age of 36 in March. Meanwhile, his long-time teammate and two-time NBA MVP, Stephen Curry, turned 38 less than a few months prior.

Barkley concluded his illustrious 16-year NBA career in the year 2000. Throughout his career, he averaged an impressive 22.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
