SouthernWorldwide.com – Representative Tom Kean Jr., a Republican from New Jersey, has announced his intention to return to in-person work in Washington within weeks, stating he is “more energized than ever.” This statement follows an extended absence from Capitol Hill due to an undisclosed medical issue.

Kean, who represents New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, has been away from Congress for several months addressing personal health matters. These issues have kept him from both Washington and campaign activities. While he mentioned in April that he was dealing with a “personal medical issue,” the specific nature of his condition has not been publicly revealed.

“Serving the people of this district is the honor of my life,” Kean stated on Tuesday. He emphasized his commitment to delivering results for New Jersey families, citing achievements such as lowering costs, restoring the SALT deduction, funding law enforcement, assisting veterans, supporting Israel, strengthening the economy, and improving government efficiency.

His statement comes amid increasing scrutiny regarding his prolonged absence. Kean has not participated in any votes since March 5, according to The New York Times. House voting records also indicated him as “Not Voting” on a roll call vote on May 21.

“I am optimistic about the road ahead, and ready to earn the support of voters in every corner of the district,” Kean continued. “I am more energized than ever to keep fighting for the people of New Jersey’s 7th District.” He added that he is currently focused on his recovery and, under the guidance of healthcare professionals, will transition from virtual work to in-person work within weeks.

Kean also pledged complete transparency regarding his medical condition once he resumes in-person duties. He acknowledged the importance of transparency on this matter and expressed his eagerness to share his experience with the public.

In a notable development preceding Kean’s Tuesday primary election, where he ran unopposed, President Donald Trump publicly endorsed the New Jersey Republican. Trump lauded Kean on Monday night via Truth Social, describing him as a staunch supporter of the “America First Agenda.”

The President highlighted Kean’s tireless efforts on critical issues such as border security, crime reduction, economic growth, tax policies, energy initiatives, veterans’ affairs, and Second Amendment rights. Trump concluded his endorsement by urging people to vote for Kean’s re-election.

Trump’s endorsement continues to hold significant sway in Republican primaries across the nation. Candidates frequently vie for his backing in anticipation of important contests. The President’s support for Kean signals that the White House and Republican leadership remain aligned with the incumbent as the party aims to defend its slim House majority in the upcoming fall elections.

On the Democratic side, four candidates were competing for the nomination to challenge Kean in November. These included Rebecca Bennett, Michael Roth, Tina Shah, and Brian Varela. Bennett ultimately secured the nomination during the Democratic primary on Tuesday night.

The Associated Press provided brief profiles of the Democratic contenders: Bennett as a former Navy helicopter pilot, Roth as a former Small Business Administration official, Shah as an intensive care doctor, and Varela as a businessman. Each of these candidates had managed to raise seven figures, underscoring the competitive nature of this battleground seat as Democrats target Kean’s position.
