GOP Rep. Bacon: Russia Should Be Expelled from UN Security Council

SouthernWorldwide.com – Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska, a Republican, has once again urged for Russia’s expulsion from the United Nations Security Council, consistently labeling the nation as a “pariah state.”

Bacon stated on X, formerly Twitter, that the UN General Assembly should conduct a vote to remove Russia from the Security Council. He believes Russia, being a pariah state, should be treated as such.

The Russian Federation currently holds a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. This status grants them significant influence within the council’s decisions.

Alongside Russia, the other permanent members of the UN Security Council are the United States, the United Kingdom, China, and France. These five nations possess veto power on council resolutions.

Bacon’s stance is not new. He previously expressed similar sentiments in February 2022. At that time, he noted the “obscene reality” of Russia chairing the UN Security Council.

He argued then that Russia should be expelled from as many international organizations and forums as possible. His repeated assertion is that Russia is a pariah state and must be treated accordingly.

In December 2023, Bacon reiterated his criticism. He declared the United Nations to be an embarrassment with Russia as a member of its Security Council.

His reasoning stemmed from Russia’s invasion of its neighbor and alleged commission of crimes against humanity. He called for Russia’s removal from the Security Council.

Beyond his calls for Russia’s expulsion, Bacon is also a strong advocate for increased military assistance to Ukraine.

He asserted that Russia is facing defeats on the battlefield and in the Black Sea, with its economy in a dire state. Bacon believes Russia’s primary remaining action is to bomb Ukrainian cities and civilians.

This situation, he argued, underscores the necessity of passing Russian sanctions and providing military aid to Ukraine. He indicated that the House of Representatives would vote on this matter within two weeks.

The lawmaker, who has been serving in Congress since early 2017, announced last year that he would not seek re-election in 2026. This decision means his current term will be his last.
