SouthernWorldwide.com – A communications staffer for Republican Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee has been reprimanded for a social media post deemed “stupid” and “hurtful,” according to the congressman.
The incident occurred when a post made by a member of Ogles’ communications team caused a stir. Ogles described the post as a significant distraction from his “America First” agenda and confirmed that the employee involved had been reprimanded.
The controversial post, which appeared on the @RepOgles X account, stated, “Homosexuality has no place in America. Happy Nuclear Family Month.” This statement was made during Pride Month, a time typically dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.
The timing of the post coincided with Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee signing a resolution designating June 2026 as “Nuclear Family Month.” This resolution had previously passed through the Tennessee state legislature.
The post drew sharp criticism from other lawmakers, including Republican Representative Mike Lawler of New York. Lawler directly addressed Ogles on X, stating that homosexuality is a reality in America and that gay and lesbian individuals are integral parts of society, including friends, family, colleagues, and constituents.
Lawler emphasized that being gay or lesbian does not diminish a person’s worth or their right to be American. He characterized Ogles’ statement as “absolutely idiotic.”
The offending post from Ogles’ account has since been deleted from X. This action followed the backlash it generated.
In contrast to Ogles’ staffer’s post, Representative Lawler had publicly acknowledged Pride Month. On Monday, Lawler extended well wishes for a “Happy Pride Month” to those who observe it in June.
Lawler’s message on X highlighted June as a time to “celebrate love, acceptance, and the freedom to be yourself.” He concluded by wishing a Happy Pride Month to everyone celebrating.
