SouthernWorldwide.com – Former first lady Jill Biden has publicly addressed criticism from within the Democratic party regarding her memoir, specifically refuting claims that the book unnecessarily revisits controversies from the 2024 election cycle.

Biden’s remarks were made during an event in New York City aimed at promoting her book, titled “View from the East Wing.” She was directly questioned about comments attributed to Andrew Bates, a former spokesperson for the Biden White House. According to the New York Post, Bates reportedly stated, “I don’t see why that painful conversation for the party needed to be publicly reopened right now.”

“I want to say to Andrew: Call me up, and say it to my face, buddy,” Biden retorted. She further asserted that her book dedicates only “one chapter on politics.”

The former first lady then broadened her discussion to encompass the 2024 election in general. Her reflections touched upon various aspects, including what she described as former President Joe Biden’s “disastrous” debate performance in June and her personal considerations regarding the aging president’s decision to seek re-election.

She conveyed that had she been aware of her husband’s condition prior to the debate, she would have offered him honest feedback. However, she clarified that she was not present during his debate preparations at the time.

“I was out campaigning,” she explained. “So I didn’t see him at debate camp at Camp David.”

“I never wanted to see that moment again in my life but since I’ve been doing press for two days, they’re like, ‘Watch this clip,’” she recalled.

“I saw Joe aging. My God, we all saw him aging,” she candidly admitted.

These statements follow closely on the heels of another notable interview where Biden appeared on “The View.” During that appearance, she acknowledged that her husband might not have been in a condition to serve another four years in office.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a co-host of “The View,” had posed a question to Jill Biden, inquiring if she believed her husband was in a suitable state to undertake another four-year term in the White House.

“Well, not from what I know now,” Biden responded. “My God. Who knew? It was so shocking to get that cancer diagnosis. I mean, we had, you know, here I was, I’m looking through travel magazines like, ‘Oh, where are we going to go? What are we going to do,’ and then we get this cancer diagnosis and I think, what am I doing? Like, our whole life has changed now. It was just shocking.”
