SouthernWorldwide.com – New York Democrat Representative Dan Goldman is increasingly being compared to Marie Antoinette in the realm of New York politics. While Democratic socialists are railing against the wealthy elite and advocating for extensive welfare programs, Goldman is doubling down on his promises of more impeachments and investigations. As the ultimate establishment candidate, he appears to be struggling.
He is reportedly trailing his opponent, housing advocate and former Comptroller Brad Lander, by over 20 points. Goldman’s strategy of “let-them-eat-impeachments” does not seem to be resonating with his constituents.
While Goldman attempts to counter the challenge from the left with some economic proposals, he is largely sticking to the narrative that propelled him to victory a few years ago. In an “age of rage,” Goldman has thrived by promoting unbridled anger. Since entering politics, his campaigns have centered on what was perceived as a guaranteed winner in New York politics: relentless and obsessive attacks on former President Donald Trump.
Goldman ensured that he was perceived as the most enraged by all things Trump, at all times. In his current campaign, he has returned to this familiar theme, promising new investigations and impeachments.
Goldman recently claimed on MSNOW that he would lead any impeachment proceedings against Trump. He stated, “[Maryland Democrat Rep.] Jamie Raskin and I will be leading investigations into Trump’s corruption, into all of the cabinet officials.”
Even as his polls indicated he was trailing Lander, on May 18, he was still promising another basis for impeaching Trump. This new ground for impeachment was based on a $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” a settlement fund intended for individuals investigated and prosecuted in connection with the January 6th riot.
Some have criticized the establishment of this fund as irregular and lacking congressional consultation. This criticism does not imply that Trump is incorrect regarding the violation of his tax information leaks or the abuses that occurred after January 6th.

In a March 22, 2021, interview with CBS News, Justice Department official Michael Sherwin declared their intention to send a message with the harsh treatment of defendants, aiming for “shock and awe.” The outcome was excessive measures against some individuals who were merely present at the protest or did not engage in any violence.
Despite objections to the method by which the fund was established, it is neither illegal nor impeachable in my view. These settlement funds have historically been left to the discretion of the Justice Department, and past administrations have made generous settlements with politically aligned groups.
However, the race in the 10th District may offer an answer to a more significant question than another impeachment frenzy in Congress.
The crucial question is whether Goldman and other candidates can secure another term based solely on rage. It will soon become apparent if Goldman’s “let them eat impeachments” pitch can overcome the fundamental, bread-and-butter policies advocated by Lander or New York City Council Member and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
It’s not that anger has lost its appeal, but the focus has shifted as socialism gains traction within the Democratic Party, particularly in New York. In this “eat-the-rich” climate, Goldman is an unlikely fit for contemporary Democratic politics.
He is not a “one percenter,” but rather the type of individual whom the one percenter might view as privileged and entitled. As highlighted by Lander during his campaign, Goldman inherited his substantial wealth as an heir to the Levi Strauss family and is reportedly worth over $200 million.
He is reported to own at least three luxury homes in Atlantic Beach on Long Island, Manhattan, and Water Mill in the Hamptons. He appears to be the epitome of the super-wealthy denounced by New York Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when she argued that one “just can’t earn” a billion dollars. In Goldman’s case, he was born into such affluence. Goldman is not merely an antagonist but the embodiment of the socialist threat.
To be fair to Goldman, he has not focused on portraying himself as an average person with shared life experiences. Instead, he has established himself within the establishment as someone willing to enthusiastically undertake actions that alienate others.
When attacks on ICE personnel increased exponentially, including incidents shown on television, Goldman denied seeing examples of such escalating assaults. When evidence emerged of then-President Joe Biden’s alleged influence peddling, it was Goldman who denied the corruption, asserting that they were merely honest businessmen making money.
When evidence mounted of the Biden administration orchestrating a vast censorship system, it was Goldman who dismissed such concerns. When other Democrats decried the Biden Administration’s seizure of members of Congress’ phone records, Goldman was quick to downplay the attack on the legislative branch.
When the administration sought to investigate those who burned Teslas and dealerships during protests, Goldman denounced it as a “political weaponization” of the legal system.
Lander continues to criticize Goldman for his inherited wealth and for investing significant personal funds into the race. Despite dismal polling numbers, Goldman has outspent Lander, vowing to match every donated dollar with his own money. This race is shaping up as a contest between the socialist wing, represented by Mamdani and Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders with Lander, and the establishment, represented by Goldman.
Nevertheless, Goldman exemplifies how the impeachment frenzy is likely to persist as members seek new targets to gain favor with voters. On May 21, Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen announced his intention to file frivolous articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts “for compromising the credibility of the court.”
This may not be enough for Dan Goldman, who could find himself as the latest establishment casualty of the very mob they hoped would maintain their power.
