SouthernWorldwide.com – A chorus of criticism, including from prominent Democrats and a former Republican ally, has targeted former President Donald Trump regarding inflation and the war in Iran following the release of new Consumer Price Index data.
Representative Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, voiced her concerns on X, formerly Twitter. She stated that the President’s “reckless war of choice in Iran” is negatively impacting Americans. Pelosi argued that skyrocketing inflation is forcing working families to bear the cost of Trump’s actions.
Pelosi further elaborated that while inflation surges, Trump is allegedly focused on personal financial pursuits. This sentiment was echoed by other Democratic lawmakers who also pointed fingers at the former president.
Representative Ro Khanna, also a Democrat from California, shared his perspective on X. He asserted that Trump had promised to lower prices, but under his policies, prices have actually increased. Khanna cited the current inflation rate of 3.8%, noting it was 3.0% when Trump began his term.

Khanna specifically blamed Trump’s decision to engage in a war in Iran. He described this action as a “betrayal of his base” and an “absolute disaster.” His statement suggested a direct link between the conflict and the economic downturn.
Adding to the criticism was former Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Greene, who has a history of being a vocal critic of Trump despite previously being a strong supporter, also took to X.
Greene declared that inflation is on the rise and gas prices have exceeded $4.50 per gallon. She directly attributed these economic hardships to Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran, stating this was “not at all what America voted for.”
It is worth noting that Greene departed from her two-year term in the House of Representatives earlier this year. This departure followed a significant falling-out with the former president.
The current national average price for regular gasoline, according to AAA, stands at $4.504 per gallon. This figure is notably lower than the record high of $5.016 per gallon, which was set in June of 2022 during President Joe Biden’s administration.
Representative Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington, also weighed in on X. She stated that inflation is accelerating due to what she termed Trump’s “illegal war.” Jayapal argued that this conflict is causing gas prices to skyrocket and called for an immediate end to the war.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released new data on Tuesday. The consumer price index (CPI), a key measure of the cost of everyday goods like gasoline, groceries, and rent, increased by 0.6% from the previous month. Year-over-year, the CPI is 3.8% higher, marking the highest level since May of 2023.
The CPI report from June 2022, released in July of that year during President Biden’s tenure, indicated a more significant increase. The CPI-U rose by 1.3% in June on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a 1.0% increase in May. Over the preceding 12 months, the all-items index had increased by 9.1% before seasonal adjustment.
