SouthernWorldwide.com – Pope Leo XIV recently held a meeting with the Mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, who is known for his far-left political stance. The meeting took place at the Vatican during a trip led by Mayor Johnson, who brought a delegation from Chicago. Notably, the delegation included Antonio Romanucci, the lawyer representing the family of George Floyd.

During the visit, Mayor Johnson presented Pope Leo XIV with a selection of apparel originating from Chicago. Among the gifts was a Chicago Cubs baseball cap.

The delegation accompanying Mayor Johnson comprised various leaders from Chicago’s political, spiritual, and business sectors. This group included Antonio Romanucci, as reported by CBS News.

Antonio Romanucci previously served as co-counsel alongside Ben Crump. Together, they represented the family of George Floyd in a significant lawsuit filed against the city of Minneapolis and its police officers, Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng.

The delegation also featured several city aldermen, Stacy Davis Gates, the president of the Chicago Teachers Union, and Kristopher Anderson, a director at United Airlines. In total, over 40 leaders were part of this group.

Pope Leo XIV, who has publicly expressed his support for Chicago’s other baseball team, the White Sox, did not wear the Cubs hat. According to FOX 32 Chicago, he humorously remarked that he was already wearing a hat.

In addition to the apparel, Mayor Johnson presented Pope Leo XIV with a key to the city of Chicago. He also extended an invitation for the Pope to visit Chicago, the city where he was born and raised, as reported by FOX 32.

Mayor Johnson shared his recollections of October 5, 1979, the day Pope John Paul II visited Chicago and led a Holy Mass in Grant Park. Johnson described this event as “the most spiritually inspiring day in Chicago history” in a letter addressed to Pope Leo XIV.

Mayor Johnson extended an invitation to Pope Leo XIV to officiate another Holy Mass in Grant Park, this time in 2027. He expressed hope that the Pope might consider a return visit, nearly 50 years after the previous one, to share his own message of hope, unity, and service.

The mayor’s office also conveyed their desire to collaborate with the Pope on political matters. In line with this, a series of gifts were presented, emphasizing the mayor’s key political priorities.

Mayor Johnson offered Pope Leo XIV letters from families of detained immigrants. Additionally, gifts included a pin from Southwest Community ICE Watch, a sanctuary city pin, and a hat bearing the inscription “Immigrants Make America Greater,” which was provided by the Chicago Sister Cities International program, according to FOX 32.
