SouthernWorldwide.com – Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani arrived in Washington D.C. on Friday morning for discussions with Vice President JD Vance. Among the key topics on the agenda was the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Just a day prior, the Qatari Prime Minister expressed his optimism to the news outlet al-Araby al-Jadeed, stating that there is a “high probability” of an agreement being reached between the United States and Iran.

Speaking from Italy on Friday morning, Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the U.S. anticipated receiving Iran’s response to the proposed agreement aimed at concluding the war. He conveyed this expectation to reporters.

“We are awaiting a response from Iran, and we will assess its content,” Rubio stated. He further expressed hope that the response would pave the way for a “serious negotiation process.”

The Qatari Prime Minister, who also holds the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, is the chief diplomat of the emirate. He has played a crucial role as an intermediary for the U.S. in addressing complex issues concerning Gaza, Afghanistan, and Iran. Qatar also serves as the host base for the U.S. Central Command.

Al-Thani’s hopeful remarks were made shortly before the U.S. initiated “self-defense strikes.” These actions coincided with comments from Mr. Trump suggesting that a deal might not materialize but could happen at any time.

During the night, the UAE reported intercepting two ballistic missiles and three drones launched from Iran. Earlier on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi posted on social media, criticizing the U.S. for opting for “reckless military adventure” whenever a diplomatic solution is presented.

While Pakistan has been the primary country facilitating the diplomatic talks thus far, numerous nations are actively involved in the efforts to bring an end to the conflict. Yesterday in Beijing, Republican Senator Steve Daines of Montana acknowledged Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for his meeting with Iran’s top diplomat and for the People’s Republic of China’s contributions to “de-escalating tensions” and fostering peace in the Middle East. Notably, Daines did not mention China’s continued status as a major trading partner and a significant purchaser of Iranian oil.
